Toys for Tots and Toys R Us

atoy.gifSo, here in the U.S., we are in full swing of the commercialization of the holidays. I do think there were decorations and such displayed for sale before we even managed to get the yard sprinklers put away and start looking for our Halloween costumes.

I have to admit, one of my LEAST favorite attempts at commercializing it all has been a TV ad for Toys R Us. In one scene, the kids are begging mom to read them a bedtime story . In the next scene, they are all snuggled up in bed and mom is reading to them from the Big Toy Book (their toy catalogue). If I had the energy to despise commercials, this would be one such commercial. It makes my blood boil (or maybe it’s just an early hot flash, I don’t know.).

Anyway, Toys R Us has redeemed itself a bit in my book (I know they’re so concerned about my opinion of them) with their collaboration (since 2004) with the Marines Toys for Tots program and their current Million Toy Drive.

From their website:

  • With the help of Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us customers, employees and local communities, the company is committed to collecting one million toys and $4 million in cash via in-store and online donations during the 2006 holiday season.

At the time of this writing, they have reached $1,269,213. You can click here to find out how to help.
