Winnie the Pooh by A. A. Milne

Notice I didn’t entitle this post, “Winnie the Pooh by Disney.” Yeah, because they really are not quite the same thing.
My daughter and I have been reading through Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne as part of her Language Arts homeschooling curriculum. It’s fun because we own The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh on video, and so most of the stories are familiar. However, as is true with most movies based on books, some details have been added, deleted, or altered from the original work of art. And, no, it’s not just that Pooh Bear gets some clothes in the movie, there are actually some differences in the stories themselves. Good thing I didn’t try and cheat and just let her watch the movie, right? 
It’s fun, I think, to picture Mr. Milne weaving these tales of his son, Christopher Robin, and his stuffed dolls. And so cool, too, that what started out as a father entertaining and spending time with his son turned into a fantastic legacy, and into several volumes of literature that we have, and will continue, to enjoy for generations.

I agree, I love the prose and dialogue of Milne’s pooh. I enjoy Beverly Cleary’s books, they’re not really literature though. Anne of Green Gables is good and Gene Stratton Porter’s books if you’re familiar with Girl of the Limberlost.
And did you know that the original stuffed animals have a home in NYC? They are at the Central Children’s Room of the Donnell Library Center on 53rd St between 5th and 6th Avenues. I used to work there!

I have all 4 of Milne’s books that relate to Pooh. My girls love them, and I’ll add them to my list of books/authors for the next post I do on that. I love Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends! Michelle, I too love the books you mentioned. L.M. Montgomery wrote several series and individual books, but I do think the Anne series is the best of the lot. And I enjoyed Porter’s “Freckles” as well as “Girl of the Limberlost.” Good literature helps feed my soul, even if it is intended for children.
