Grill Turkey for Thanksgiving My brother in law is a supreme grill master. He grills everything, and everything turns out delicious. Here’s his recipe for grilling your Thanksgiving turkey.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium turkey
  • aluminum roasting pan
  • extra large cooking bag
  • Italian salad dressing
  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder

To stuff inside:

  • 1-2 lemons chopped
  • 1-2 limes chopped
  • pineapple chunks (fresh or canned) If you use canned, drain them
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic minced

Make sure your turkey is completely defrosted. Rub the outside of the turkey really well with the Italian dressing and the garlic powder.

Insert the turkey into the cooking bag, and place it in the roasting pan. Stuff the turkey with as much of the lemon, lime, pineapple, onion and garlic mixture as you can fit. Close up the bag.

Cook the turkey for 4-6 hours on the grill on indirect heat. Turn the burner opposite the turkey on medium high. Do not turn on the burner under the turkey, or the bottom of the turkey will burn with the direct heat. The cooking temperature inside the grill (lid closed to cook) should be between 350-375′F. If you have a 3 burner grill turn on the other two burners, but do not turn on the burner under the turkey.

Cook the turkey until the internal temperature of the turkey is at least 165-170`F.

The turkey turns out juicy, with a pleasant citrus flavor.

This sounds scrumptious, but for Thanksgiving my turkey must have my Mom’s stuffing! ;-)

Could you do this with a large roaster chicken as well?

  2. Linette says:

Jean- I love the stuffing too. We just made it in a separate pan.

I’m sure you could grill a large roaster chicken the same way, you just wouldn’t have to cook it as long. Probably 2-4 hours, just make sure the internal temperature reaches 165-170`F minimum.
