Today is the official kick off for the 2008 Summer Olympics. To celebrate I have a list of Olympic party ideas, and resources for you, and some other Olympic links thrown in just for fun.

The Olympics are almost here, so why not kick of this big event with an Olympic kick off party. The Summer Games officially kick off on August 8th and run until August 24th 2008.
Invite your friends over for the opening ceremony, or invite them over to view your favorite sport. Make a day of it and have your own backyard Olympic events.
Here are a couple easy decorating ideas for your Olympic celebration:

If you’re planning a Summer Olympics party, give the food a world-wide theme. Make a flag or banner for each dish, explaining what the food is and what country it represents.
Keep the foods simple, but try to represent as many countries as you can. Finger foods, and sandwiches will work the best, and keep things simple for your guests.

Tacos from Mexico
Brats from Germany

With the Olympic games only a couple weeks away, why not plan your own backyard Olympics party.  Get your friends together and plan some fun competitions. Divide into teams to represent different countries.
Hold an opening ceremony, and have a team parade. Let each team decorate team t-shirts with their teams emblem, or name. You can also let each team create a team flag.
Elevate your favorite backyard games to Olympic status. Give out gold, silver, and bronze medals to the winners. You can get them from an awards store, or make your own out of cardboard, and ribbon. …read more
