We’re Having a Backyard Water Party

Last year, we decided to have my son’s entire preschool class to a birthday party at the orchard. While I’m pleased to report it’s rousing success, we’re not looking to spend so much money this year. Besides, we have a great backyard and, weather permitting, a great plan. We’re having a backyard water party.
We told our son he can have five or six friends over. We’ll have a water balloon toss, sprinklers to run around in, and my husband hooks up a hose to the backyard playset to make a water slide. Plus we have an above ground pool and if kids bring their own vests we’ll even have swimming. We’ll probably order a pizza and have pinata as well. I won’t do a big cake for the kids’ party, I’ll make cupcakes instead and save the cake for when the relatives come over.
I don’t mind doing something big every now and then, but I like small backyard parties best. I know lots of parents prefer to have the party away from the home so they don’t have to clean up before hand and deal with mess, but I think if you keep it to a small group it works out just fine.
What do you do for your kids’ birthday parties?

We’ve done cupcake decorating. Different colored icing, gummies, sprinkles. They have fun decorating their own cupcakes.
I always liked having my childrens partys outside- Alot more room- they can run and play , More room for games and decorations!
