What Is A Tablescape?

You hear the term “tablescape” quite a bit these days when you hear people talking about setting up for a dinner or party. So what is a tablescape, and why is it important?

A tablescape is the overall look of your table, and the area around the table. It includes the table centerpiece, the place settings, napkins, decorations, chairs, and anything else used to set the mood of the table.

The tablescape can set the tone for the whole party, or gathering. If you have a formal tablescape, guests will expect a more formal gathering. If you have a fun playful tablescape, guests will expect a fun party.

You can make your tablescape elegant, give it a theme, or a color palate, make it complex, or keep it simple.  It’s all up to you.

I recently worked on a dinner party for about 250 people. Everything you said is so accurate! Our tables were really formal…but they had candy on them so they were fun also :)

  2. Thanks Becca~ 250? sounds like fun:-) I have one (an anniversary) coming up that’s around 200 people and casual, hmmm.
