a place to find, or give, help in Brooklyn New York!

The Brooklyn Young Mothers’ Collective is giving young women and their children the power, the skills, and the hope they need to succeed. Thanks go out to Trickydame, who pointed me to the organization after she participated in a Defenders of Love fundraising event for the Brooklyn Young Mothers’ Collective.
I love their mission statement:
The mission of The Brooklyn Young Mothers’ Collective is to break the cycle of generational poverty among pregnant and parenting low-income mothers by helping them actively engage in improving the conditions that impact their lives.
We do this by providing comprehensive sexuality and reproductive health education, legal information and advocacy support. We also build leadership skills in young mothers and organize them to improve the response of community and government agencies in addressing their needs.
Their programs look solid, and if I lived up in that neck of the woods, I’d volunteer.
Here’s my question to you: What organizations in your neighborhood reach out to women and children at risk? Do you volunteer?? Did the organization help you? Let me know, and I’ll post links in the blogroll!
