Solo Mother

Did anyone make any resolutions, this year? Say YES!

We here at b5media aren’t slackers, that’s for sure. Check out the Family and Relationships Carnival over at Inside Motherhood. Some very ambitious folks.

IMG 0056I’m going to be flighty tonight. Good things in the air. I’ll leave you with this thought for the weekend: try saying yes. Can you do it? Can you say yes to your kid this weekend? Try it. And if you have to stop your kid, can you say it without saying no? If the little nut is jumping on the couch, and that’s a no-no at your house, can you give a reminder? “The couch is for sitting. We sit on the couch, we jump on the floor. Please get down.” Think it will work? When it doesn’t work at my house, I go to the nut, make eye contact, and say it again. He always does what I ask.

And if your kid asks if he can float boats in the sink, or if she can wear mismatched socks and half a fairy princess costume with half a cowboy outfit and go to the mall dressed that way, can you say yes? What harm is it doing?

Try it. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

i LOVE saying yes to damien- but to be honest, it took me a long time to learn to stop saying “no” for no reason. i had to teach myself to think before i answered something he asked me with a n automatic negative, and i have no idea why i did it in the first place!

It’s so hard to untrain that kind of knee-jerk response. I hope i can get used to it, before we hit teen years. I’m hoping it will alleviate any clashes of will. We’ll see.
