Thanks BizzyWoman for pointing me to this great site. Denise Bergeron authors Financial Help for Single Moms, a site filled with articles about a wide variety of topics, from credit counseling to online degrees to budget worksheets. It doesn’t have that personal, one on one feel we’ve all come to love in the blogosphere, but someone has taken the time to put together some helpful resources, and I for one am grateful.
Maybe I’ll start looking at online degrees…
Hi Christina, just thought I’d share that I take online classes at University of MD University College (UMUC) and it’s been working out pretty well. Granted I work full-time and have a 2 1/2 year old, but the free time that I do have I am using to pursue my degree. I never thought that I could do it, but I am. So if you’re looking for a accredited school for online studies, I recommend it.
Jackie, I’ve been reading about the Open University program they have at UMD. They give credit for life experience, too, don’t they. Food for thought. How are you enjoying the program? Are you doing a masters or getting your undergraduate? tell me more!
I’m slowly working on my undergrad in finance, but I find the program to be great. It’s definitely not any easier academically than attending traditional classes, but the convenience of being able to log in when I’m able during the week certainly helps! Yes, they have a class called the Excel program where you can compile your work/life experience into a portfolio. From what I understood, it is then reviewed and you can receive up to 21 credits, if I remember correctly. The average is about 15-18 credits though I believe. I would love to be able to do that when I have the extra money, but for now, I’m just sticking to the regular class schedule. For me, I’m just so happy to still be able to work on my degree while raising my son.
