This week’s back-to-school giveaway: Momspit

One of the things on my school supply list is hand sanitizer for the classroom. My kid’s too old to be eating the stuff, but did you know? Hand sanitizer can contain up to 62% Ethyl alcohol? And little kids who decide to taste the stuff instead of rubbing it into their hands can wind up drunk on a school day. It’s not an urban myth, either.
Luckily, there’s a brilliant product on the market that offers an alternative to that gross stuff.  MOMSPIT. You’ll never spit onto a tissue and scrub your kid’s face again. Here’s how the ladies over …read more

No more plastic sandwich and snack bags! ReSnackIt giveaway

Day after day you pack your kid’s sandwich in one plastic bag, his goldfish snack in another plastic bag, and you send him out with trash to throw away. Every day, your kid goes to school, unwraps her sandwich, eats her goldfish, and tosses the disposable baggies away.
Every day. Two, sometimes three pieces of plastic into the landfill five days a week, almost all year round. What would that look like if you stacked it all up in your house?
There’s a fabulous mom-owned business that can put an end to that terrible landfill we call lunch.  Her company is called …read more

I’m giving away a sanity fairy… anyone want one?

Because it’s Tuesday and I’ve already worked 35 hours, and because this week and beyond is just looking all around craptacular, I thought I’d turn my frown upside down and make someone happy.
Who wants a book?

A little link love for my favorite single mothers

Yes, ladies, this means you. The women whose husbands are soldiers overseas, the women whose mates travel so often that you feel like you’re a single mother, the women who chose to have a child without the husband… the widows, the accidentally-single-by-choice…
what an incredible bunch we are!
You  might want to unwind and tell our lame duck president what you think of his foreign policy expertise… or lack thereof. There are tons of silly games that have arisen since an irate Iraqi reporter showed his utter disdain for a president who didn’t even know he was being humiliated. Wire has …read more

Do you know what day it is?

Do you know what day it is?

Apparently, I don’t. I’ve been thinking for days that today’s the 16th and tomorrrow’s the 17th. I’ve designed my whole schedule around that assumption, and have suddenly discovered WOAH. Wait a minute. I’ve lost a whole day.
Don’t you just hate it when that happens?
It’s a problem of these hectic times; somehow I’m running the communications aspect of a massive GOTV effort, volunteering in the evenings to make phone calls, packing lunches, doing laundry, keeping in touch (poorly, I’ll admit it) with friends, planning Halloween costumes, and even finding a little grown up time for me. When life gets crazy, we …read more

And the winner of Big Boned is…

We have the most scientific method of selecting random winners here at Chez KoE. In fact, it’s so random, it has become one of the King of Everything’s favorite games.
You see, telling the KoE to choose a number between one and ten invariably resulted in him choosing the number one — or the number ten — ad nauseum, ad infinitum, amen. So finally, I fell upon this ingenious solution: I count the number of unique responders to a contest post, and the KoE and I select the corresponding number of little plastic figurines. This time, we had what appeared …read more
