Solo Mother

Why it is so past my bedtime

Tonight, we finished our chapter of the third Harry Potter book and the inevitable bedtime wrangling began. No, I’m not going to bring you another glass of water. No I don’t want to be a cheetah tonight. No, I’m not going to analyze every sentence of the other two HP books tonight into the wee hours of the morning. No, I’m not going to give you another gazillion kisses, you’ve already had a bajillion and two. No I’m not going to stay with you until you fall asleep, you don’t fall asleep until I leave the room!

And finally, I think my bedtime should be a little earlier, because obviously I’m not the only immature one. I mean really. “BECAUSE I’M THE ADULT AND YOU’RE THE CHILD THAT’S WHY!” is, under some circumstances, a good thing to remind your child every once in a while. But not with a big pout and hands on hips at the tops of your lungs.

No. Nuh-uh. Nope.

Go to sleep. Night night.

  1. One of the joys of having teenagers is saying “I’m going to sleep now, make sure you shut off the TV when you go to bed.”

    Your time will come! :)

  2. Hassles at bed time can strain even the most saintly of us. I can remember uttering those same words and also remember (more than once) just bursting into tears.

Soon, the kids become teen-agers and your shouts and pouts are directed at urging them out of bed.

    It’s always something . . .

Ladies, I don’t know if we can survive to teendom, but well, shucks, we don’t have any choice, do we??
