Should feminists vote for the woman “just because” she’s the woman? (As if U.S. Senator or successful attorney are not great qualifications.)

Even though she’s not as “likeable” or “passionate” (passionate is what we’re calling the man, while cry-baby is what we’re calling the woman for showing emotion apparently) as the black man?

Or are we judging the candidates on their politics and voting for the best one?

My oh my, what’s a good feminist to do?

Here’s a link to an article about the young feminists at Hillary Clinton’s own alma-mater Wellesley, an all-women’s college, in the Washington Post. Not all of them are voting for the female candidate.

The addition of Barack Obama, a younger, sexier, more charismatic candidate with less personal and public history to overcome, has seriously challenged the feminist dream of a female president. And he’s a black man - which changes the dream altogether.

Do voters go for Martin Luther King’s dream or Gloria Steinham’s? Most of us who will vote Democratic have embraced both dreams as our own.

In fact, it’s probably fair to say that without feminists Obama wouldn’t be a good contender and likewise, without ethnic minorities Clinton wouldn’t be either.

It’s just not how we, women, pictured it is it? We pictured the woman, when she finally got there, confronting all the while male candidates and for many of us – that would have been easy choice.

It’s a good problem to have though. Several very good choices sure beats the alternative of choosing between the lesser of two evils.

Listen to this: Obama and Edwards Tag-Team Clinton. Doesn’t that just ring a lovely bell? Makes you think of headlines you might see on the cover of Hustler or Juggs doesn’t it?

Totally fair and equitable treatment of the only lady.

Hillary was also told by the political head honcho of ABC that she’s “not as likable as Barack Obama.” She responded, “You’ve hurt my feelings.” Well, it was rather rude.

None of the male candidates were challenged on their likability issues. Only the girl needs to be liked as the major concern, I suppose. The men, they can just sit there looking . . . what’s the word I’m looking for . . .Legitimate and valid? Something like that.

And then there’s the matter of appearance. No one ever comments on what the men are wearing. . . Yet, they just can not leave Hillary’s fashion alone. Either with the compliments or criticism – it’s just not an issue the men have to deal with.

Frankly, it looked exhausting to hold the posture, and the perfect smile without getting lipstick on her teeth, legs tightly together and crossed, hands exactly placed – sitting “like a lady,” as my mother used to say, for the whole 2 hours of passive-aggressive sexist attacks.

Overall she stood up for herself (and the rest of us) quite well. Very proud of you tonight, Hillary. Very Proud.

 Who doesn’t have a crush on Obama? That’s all I have to say.

As a Femimommy I really ought to be offended that barely dressed girls are being used to advertise political campaigns.

Instead, I’m far too amused. And I think it’s about time politicians stopped having such a stiff (kinda pun intended) image and that Obama, though he had nothing to do with this, can only benefit. It appeals to my youngish self and will certainly appeal to the barely-voting-age audience.

I’m totally Voting For The Girl - Hillary – because I know it will empower girls. I even made some custom bumper stickers for Hillary.

But, if I weren’t, I’d vote for Obama because of his idealism and ability to compromise for the bigger picture and maybe, just a little, cause I too have kind of a crush on him. Obama is hot!
