Ok, Joan Rivers. I get that your thing is being a crazy-ass, superficial, wisecracking old woman. But can you lay off our fave lady, Adele? More

Jodie Foster basically stole the show when she came out at the Golden Globes last night, but the night had another breakaway star: The post-pregnant body. (Well, Lena Dunham is probably higher on the list, but hear me out.) Judging by headlines, you’d think women were winning awards for their ability to lose pregnancy weight; not for their actual work on screen. More
Adele, our favorite outspoken, body-confident songstress, has made some comments regarding Lady Gaga‘s recent body brouhaha. Some media outlets are reporting that the new statement “slams” pop stars who dress in skimpy outfits. I’m surprised Adele’s comments are so harsh, especially since she’s no stranger to body criticism. More
In case you hadn’t heard the newest in celebrity uterus news, Grammy-winner Adele has what is sure to be an adorable little bun in the oven. Now, we’re just waiting for the weight-shaming reactions to start pouring in. Anyone taking bets on how long before a random doctor tells us how much weight Adele should be gaining over the next couple months? More
Around these parts, we really love Adele. We love that she doesn’t use shampoo, we love that she’s more focused on health than being a “skinny-minnie,” and we love that her powerful voice woke a girl from a coma. A coma! So when In Touch recently broke the news that there’s a new unofficial Adele biography, I was pretty excited to hear all about her life story–and then immediately sad/concerned for her when I read that, apparently, in the book, author Marc Shapiro alleges that Adele had a “drinking problem.” More
Adele has been an inspiring champion of positive body image and all-around great role model in a sea of not-so-exemplary celebrities, but now that her song has woken a young girl from a coma, we’re pretty sure she wins the gold medal for most lovable celebrity, ever. According to The Telegraph, “Rolling in the Deep” jolted seven-year-old Charlotte Neve out of a coma after suffering a brain hemorrhage in April. More
Kelly Clarkson is on the cover of July’s Redbook talking about love, fame, and her recent 30 lb weight loss. But the Daily Mail said Kelly “shocked fans with a sudden slim down,” implying that the singer, who has spoken repeatedly about not caring about her weight, is hypocritical for shedding some pounds. It’s not surprising that her newly-svelte figure coincides with the brand-new ABC singing competition Duets, for which she serves as a mentor, but why should it matter how or why she lost the weight? Kelly’s body (and body image!) is her own, and it’s downright sad that she can’t make changes without being taken to task for it. More
Adele told Britain’s Radio 1 that she’s going vegetarian—and while she did say that it is part of her effort to be healthy, it’s not about weight loss (as some tabloids have been reporting—seriously, guys: there’s a difference between prioritizing health and obsessing over weight). In fact, she says the switch is mostly motivated by her dog. More
Adele is great for many reasons, but her admission that she’s a ‘no shampoo’ girl makes us like her even more. Asked by Glamour how she gets such impressive volume in her mane, she explained that her biggest secret is not using shampoo—a clean beauty trend that’s not just good for our bodies and the environment, but also a pretty great way to avoid the need for styling products, according to Adele. Rumor has it that Adele’s trying to get healthy in light of her recent throat surgery…or is it that she’s trying to look skinny? Judging by the headlines, it’s the latter; judging by most of the facts and everything she’s said about her body and weight, it’s obviously the former. But tabloids don’t acknowledge that there’s a difference at all, and as a result, most of us have become just as confused about the difference between exercising and eating well—even trying to lose weight—for health, and embarking on a diet or fitness plan solely for the sake of looking skinny. Fans and media have already shamed Karl Lagerfeld for fat-shaming Adele, but now Madonna‘s getting on his case—and pointing the discussion towards her talent instead of her looks. In an interview with The Sun, she said his comments about the singer’s weight were “horrible” and offered advice to the younger pop star for weathering the kind of criticism doled out by Lagerfeld. Adele looks great on the cover of Vogue‘s March issue. But she pretty much always looks gorgeous to me, which is why I just really wish that Vogue would let me see her chin… and her real body, while they’re at it. Some are giving Anna Wintour props for “showing more than just a close-up of her face” on the cover, and marveling at how it looks like Adele lost weight. I’m sorry, but no: She just got a body and face by photoshop which, given how much pride she takes in how she looks, I’m guessing she didn’t really want. And if you’re listening, Vogue, neither do I. Before Adele swept yesterday’s Grammy Awards with wins in six categories (including song and album of the year), CBS aired an interview the 23-year-old British singer did with Anderson Cooper for “60 Minutes.” And not only can Adele clearly sing—she belts out “Someone Like You” a capella during the segment—she’s kind of a badass in the body image department, too. Adele seemed unphased by Karl Lagerfeld‘s nasty fat comments earlier this week, but miraculously, the whole debacle has actually made the kaiser sound kind of…human, for once. In an uncharacteristic move, he publicly apologized, sympathizing with her and other celebrities who get criticized for their weight. More
