I know that there are a lot of zumba fans out there. I know this because the dance-inspired modern day aerobicize is everywhere. Even in my small Midwestern city, every church has a “Mommy Zumba Night.” My daughter’s gymnastics class and swim lessons at the Y are filled with announcements for the parents that zumba classes are available on the weekends. My afternoon Pilates class at my gym? Bumped. There were a lot of requests for zumba. More

We’ve all heard of ‘Aerobicise,’ the workout series that launched a million leotard-and-leg-warmer ensembles—but did you know that its founder was a celebrated fashion photographer who went on to run a porn empire? Yep. And here I thought Aerobicise was no different than the Jazzercise classes my mom taught at the YMCA… More

Adding to a smorgasbord of gimmicky fitness fads, Crunch gym in West Hollywood now has people pounding and sweating out their calories and stress. The newest aerobics/pilates class, Pound, involves age-old moves like squats, jumps, leg lifts and core exercises. But it adds something you’ve never seen before in the gym: drumsticks. More
There are major pros and cons to living in the Big Apple (take it from us), but one undeniably great perk is the backsides of New Yorkers. Why do so many Yankees have great butts? It’s certainly not the bagels or pizza. And not every city resident has a celebrity trainer like Gwyneth’s. But our city’s great equalizer (and bane of many morning commutes) is stairs: You can’t ride the subway without climbing at least two flights, and many of us live in walk-ups that make getting home feel like a step aerobics class. But even we New Yorkers can get flabby back there: Thanks to elevators and hours spent at our desks, even Blisstree staffers aren’t climbing enough steps to keep up with New York’s best. That’s why we’re enrolling our office in Social Workout’s The Fittest Office: NYC challenge, and we want you to join us, too.
Could you do 240 flights of stairs in 31 days with us?

The week is almost over, but not without a little Friday flashback to send us off for the long weekend. We’ve been making fun of the recent trend in bad clothes for lazy people this week, but Drew Barrymore’s Saturday Night Live Skit, “Body Fusion,” has us grateful for today’s clothing options. (Snuggies and slankets are bad, but at least spandex has gone out of style, right?) More

I’m a closeted aerobics lover. I’d rather be learning a dance-y routine than busting my ass on the treadmill, and I even like the awful ’80s music that blares as I lunge. That’s obviously what attracted me to the Zumba Fitness Program. While not a regular Zumba class-goer, I had tried the Latin/urban dance fitness fusion program a few times. So when I heard that Zumba was launching an at-home Zumba Fitness Video Game, I was so excited, I started shimmying. More

Sleep deprived? We thought you’d like this post from Ronnie Koenig at AOL Health.
We all know the benefits of doing cardio — a healthier heart, a smaller waistline and more energy. But did you know that doing an aerobic workout can also promote sleep, particularly for people over 55?
A new study from Northwestern Medicine, funded by the National Institute on Aging, showed that getting regular aerobic exercise was an effective, drug-free prescription for insomnia. The researchers looked at 23 sedentary adults, primarily women over the age of 55 who had difficulty falling asleep and whose lack of sleep interfered with daily tasks. The individuals were split into two groups — exercising and non-exercising. More
