Alzheimer’s Information for Youngsters & Teens

“Grandma doesn’t know who I am,” is a frequent statement when children visit or live with grandparents who have developed Alzheimer’s.  Or “Grandpa’s acting funny today.  He doesn’t know where he is.”
Some youngsters find this situation very confusing; others accept and love this “new” person in their lives.  How can we help your children and grandchildren understand what is happening, how to cope, and how to enjoy that grandparent?
The Alzheimer’s Association has many resources for children and teens on their site.  You may want to check these out at www.alz.org/Resources/kidsandteens/overview.asp .

Q & A -How Can I Prevent Alzheimer’s?

Q – “How can I keep from getting Alzheimer’s?” I’m so often asked.

Do Strawberries & Blueberries Boost Brain Power?

Research indicates that strawberries and blueberries may aid in preventing our brains from declining so rapidly as we age.  Since these foods are rich in antioxidents, they may be good to eat to keep our brains sharp.
Eating Fabulous, a blog by Ruth Schaffer, gives more information about this topic today.  Ruth also refers to an article on this topic in The Neurobiology of Aging. Her blog post is, Strawberries for Your Aging Brain at http://www.eatingfabulous.com/strawberries-for-your-aging-brain/ .
Since I like both of these berries, and eat many of them in season, I won’t have any trouble indulging in what apparently is good for me.
