We knew pollution was bad for us, but I always thought it had mainly to do with lung function. Now, new research shows that pollution may significantly increase the chance for liver disease in the United States as well.
Research showed a third of people with the disease did not get it from what has been known as the traditional sources (alcohol and hepatitis). Chronic, “low-level exposure to 111 common pollutants, including lead, mercury, PCBs and pesticides” were found in 60 percent or more fo the study group subjects with abnormal liver functions.
