I posted about this house, the Gilmore Trail House, a while back. Well, Mark Fejes, the fellow who designed and built the home contacted me with an update about it plus some photos. Neat, because if you remember, I noted that I wanted to learn more about it, and see inside.

I posted about this house, the Gilmore Trail House, a while back. Well, Mark Fejes, the fellow who designed and built the home contacted me with an update about it plus some photos. Neat, because if you remember, I noted that I wanted to learn more about it, and see inside.

Fejes says:

“I still live in the house on Gilmore Trail. I have perhaps an unnatural connection to that 5 acres in that I bought it when I was 18 years old, the first kid on my block to own property. Building and living in my own house in the woods was an old dream even by then and Fairbanks was full of people that had done it so I was encouraged by the lack of obstacle, learning what I needed to know as I went. It is still suits me, is very well kept and comfortable. It has a south view of the 100 mile wide Tanana River Valley with the Alaska Range at the horizon.”

What a great story. Learning as you go certainly teaches you a thing or two about building. Plus, it’s so nice when people plant themselves in their dream area and stay.

Look inside!

Or rather, look at the view… trees, trees, and more trees. Nice.

And Fejes sent me pictures of another house he designed and built – it’s a lovely shape, but you’ll have to jump to see it. I don’t want the page loading too slow you know.

Fejes says this is a home he designed and built in the 80s for friends. He noted that the kids on the deck are actually out of college now so the home may need a new family soon. Moral: If you happen to be moving to Alaska, check around for cool triangle homes for sale.

Below: “North elevation under construction (no view no sun, just sculpture, egress and ventilation)”

“South elevation (view of the Alaska Range and lots of sun).”

“Play room , sauna and hot tub just around the corner.”

Really nice stuff – Great windows with lots of light. Plus, come on, triangle shaped homes rock. I want to live in the woods. Although, I am sort of a snow wimp. One of my best friends is from Alaska, and she thinks I’d faint at all the snow. She could be right. Growing up in my corner of Oregon doesn’t exactly lead to snow know-how. Still, I’m thinking a little snow couldn’t hurt. You would get the great views.

If you want to read more about Mark Fejes, you can visit his website portfolio. Many cool art pieces (both functional and visionary) to see, plus, if you like Alaska art there are some nice links on his homepage. You can also visit the previous post about him here at Offbeat.

What do you think? Are you ready to live in the woods? Build your own home? Let me know.

Remember the Alaska Beauty I recently posted? Maybe not since not one person commented on it! I however am obsessed with this house. Just the other day I found another photo of it purely by chance. At least I think it’s the same house — it looks like it from the green roof. It must be fate. I am fated to own this house. Or else it’s just a wildly popular Alaska haunt.
This shot of my fate house is lovely. Here you can see that I would have a lot of gardening to do. I’d probably need to quit writing [...]
Post from: Blisstree
