Of course it is common sense to suggest to a newcomer to change their playmates and playgrounds! If they don’t they’ll put themselves right back in a place where alcohol, drugs or whatever, can influence their thinking and actions. Certainly, in the beginning – how many of us are spiritually fit enough to go there?

Yet, there will come a time…

We must change playmates, playgrounds, and playthings???

Page 100-101: “Assuming we are spiritually fit, we can do all sorts of things alcoholics are not supposed to do. People have said we must not go where liquor is served; we must not have it in our homes; we must shun friends who drink; we must avoid moving pictures which show drinking scenes; we must not go into bars; our friends must hide their bottles if we go to their houses; we mustn’t think or be reminded about alcohol at all. Our experience shows that this is not necessarily so.
We meet these conditions every day. An alcoholic who cannot meet them, still has an alcoholic mind; there is something the matter with his spiritual status. His only chance for sobriety would be some place like the Greenland Ice Cap, and even there an Eskimo might turn up with a bottle of scotch and ruin everything!”

Offering up a perfect example of old thinking, having quite obviously spent some time with the itty bitty sh**ty committee, Hal was kind enough to drop this inane comment here yesterday.

Thanks Hal, I needed to be reminded how we can become so inane. I mean, us alkies will stoop to whatever depths we need to to justify our drinking!

Offering up a perfect example of old thinking, having quite obviously spent some time with the itty bitty sh**ty committee, Hal was kind enough to drop this inane comment here yesterday. He got caught in moderation (that’s a blog term Hal). I’ll take a screen shot of it because I don’t want to use up valuable space at A Dozen Steps. Here it is, in reference to this post last year: “A Glimpse Into An Alcoholic Mind”

“Mark said, ‘It wants us dead.’ If we’re dead, the alcoholic mind won’t have access to alcohol. Can the alcoholic mind commit suicide?”

Maybe you might give my friend Alicia a visit Hal. Hop over to “Keep Your Brains Busy This March” and see what she has to say because, imho, you seem to have a need to get grounded a bit more than you are.

At any rate, that remark shows either a total lack of knowledge about alcoholism or complete disdain towards recovery or an extreme effort to justify drinking, one or the other. If you’re going to meetings – please keep going. If you’re not going to meetings you might give that serious consideration. If, by an exceptionally small chance, you’re not a member of AA and think you’re having a bit of fun at our expense, remember, those that judge don’t matter and those that matter don’t judge. You don’t matter.

I received a comment into moderation the other day relating to an older post on Clubs In AA. I haven’t approved it because I doubt its sincerity. It says: “Recently a AA club moved into a building that has a bar on the second floor. This to me is completely unacceptable.”
Really??? Think about this. Unacceptable to you??? I thought we stopped playing God in recovery.

“Assuming we are spiritually fit, we can do all sorts of things alcoholics are not supposed to do.
My guess is that the commenter wants us to live out our lives in some sort of fishbowl without social contact at all.

“We must meet these conditions every day. An alcoholic who cannot meet them, still has an alcoholic mind; there is something the matter with his spiritual status.”

Does it appear that our commenter has a bit of a challenge with their spiritual status? Looks like it to me…
