Christmas ideas often run through quilters’ minds in July, as they begin contemplating projects and even starting them for gifts to give for the December holidays.
Throughout the month of July, I’ll be featuring some posts about this topic and I’d enjoy for you all to chime in, leaving comments with ideas for holiday items quilters and fabric artists can start now, so they’ll be ready for the season, even if it’s six months away.

Do you tie your quilts and fabric art in with holidays and unique celebrations? This can give you many ideas for interesting designs.
For instance, I learned that today, June 7, is Daniel Boone Day when I stopped by Sandy Mitchell’s All Holiday Cafe. What could you create using this celebration as a springboard for designs?
Pioneers, Daniel Boone, Kentucky, Wilderness Trail, history, coonskin cap, patriotism…these are just a few ideas to inspire a quilt, hanging, fabric art piece, or something in mixed media.
What have you done in quilting that’s connected with an unusual holiday or celebration?

Sandy Mitchell, of All Holiday Cafe, gives us insight into the origin of Black History Month, going back to 1926, when Prof. Carter J. Woodsen designated Negro History Week in mid-February, near the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.
She also provides a round-up of posts about Black History Month around b5media. She included my Quilting and Patchwork post, Quilters Celebrate Black History Month.
Do you have anything special on your blog for this event?
