There was a special television program on a while back (on PBS I believe) about a guy who was trying to be more eco-friendly by using the same plastic water bottle over and over. I think he had clocked in a year+ of using the same water bottle. It seems like a better idea than buying new water bottles, but in actuality it’s not a very green or healthy act.

A recent piece from my local news site features this idea of reusing a disposable plastic water bottle over and over and the advice came down …read more

In yet another reason to ban BPA from your home, The Washington Post released info about a new study last week that claims bisphenol A (BPA) may be behind certain, um male issues such as erectile dysfunction and other sexual problems.
The study, published in the journal Human Reproduction, is interesting since up until now, all reproductive / BPA studies have been conducted with mice or rats. This new research actually involved human males. BPA is a toxic issue and one that’s hard to beat. It’s found commonly in thousands of consumer products from dishes to baby bottles to canned foods …read more

In a previous post, Giving up on SIGG: which bottle to choose, we looked at the various types of water bottles available. Plastic was one type, but as noted many plastic reusable bottles have many downsides. Many are made of polycarbonate, which while durable, also is known to leech bisphenol A (BPA). Plastic is also made with non-renewable oil, doesn’t keep drinks too cold, and research shows that people don’t recycle as much plastics as they can (the U.S. standard plastic recycling rate is just 24%). BUT some people really don’t want an aluminum bottle, stainless steel bottle, or glass …read more

Everyone and their eco-friendly pooch has likely heard by now about the huge SIGG water bottle drama going down. Yes SIGG water bottles did have trace Bisphenol A (BPA) and while yeah the BPA is highly unlikely to leech into your water the company seemingly tried to cover it up which just might make other green consumers and possibly you want to think twice before handing over your money to the company. I’m not concerned that a SIGG bottle will kill me with chemicals but I am totally peeved that they were sneaky and slick worded instead of open and …read more

So in case you haven’t heard, one of the hottest buzzes around the ecosphere is the SIGG issue. Long story short…
Most greenies love SIGG it’s a valuable water bottle option when compared to disposable plastic bottles. In fact, I have written about them a lot.
Back in 2007 SIGG’s CEO noted that SIGG bottles were BPA trace free.
Fast forward to August 2009 and now SIGG’s CEO (yeah the same guy, Steve Wasik) is all, well, the older bottles DO have BPA, but no worries.
Let the drama begin.
Now, I already posted about this, my friend posted about this, and as to not …read more
