An Apple a Day to Keep the Alzheimer’s Away?

Remember the saying ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’. Well, it might not be the only thing it keeps away. Studies in the past few years have been looking into whether consuming apples helps reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Go Green To Protect Against Alzheimer’s.

Want to have a good memory – then drink green tea. According to a Japanese study (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Feb 2006) of 1000 seniors over the age of 70, those who reported drinking two cups of green tea a day were 54% less likely to show age-related declines in memory, orientation, ability to follow commands, and attention. And cognitive changes amongst those who drank one cup of green tea four to six times a was 38% less than those who only drank green tea less than three times a week.

Try Strawberries to Combat Alzheimer’s

Strawberries come into the news again as one of the bestter antioxident foods for combatting Alzheimer’s and other memory loss conditions.  A recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (July issue) was conducted by the Univ. of Oslo, Norway, the Univ. of Minnesota, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute involving 1113 foods and beverages.
This tasty berry came out has having the third highest antioxident concentration among all the foods tested.  Blackberries and walnuts ranked higher, with artichoke hearts and cranberries following closely behind.
