Lively Women Christmas Store

I created the Lively Women Christmas Store for shoppers like me who don’t like the crowds. You can find it anytime in the Pages section over in the sidebar.
Sure, I may still buy a few gifts in an actual store, but I love the convenience of shopping online. I can compare prices at several stores without getting in the car.
In the store, I’ve included some health-related books, and some other things I just thought you might like.
Please have fun no matter where you choose to shop. And don’t stress!

Ever Injure Yourself and Have No Clue How You Did It?

(www.livelywomen.com) — I woke up two mornings ago with excruciating pain in my right arm. At first I thought I slept funny, but as the day went on and the pain got worse, I came to the conclusion that I must have done something the day before that strained or pulled a muscle or ligament and I just didn’t realize it.
Spinning Things Near My Eyes Freak Me Out

(www.livelywomen.com) — I’ve seen the SpinLash rotating mascara brush on TV and shuddered at the thought of putting that thing anywhere near my eyes. As Holly Jackson says at crave, I’m fully capable of poking myself in the eye with an immobile mascara brush, thankyouverymuch.
I just about busted a gut when I visited the SpinLash website and watched the lovely promotional video about halfway down the page. Some excerpts from the voiceover:
Every woman wants longer, thicker, sexier eyelashes — but regular mascara can end up looking clumpy! False eyelashes look fake! [[Gee, ya think???]] And eyelash curlers hurt! [[Ouch! says …read more
Student Health Insurance

(www.livelywomen.com) — Last month, I posted about the abject terror and potentially serious long-term issues that come along being uninsured or underinsured. Today, Miranda over at Yielding Wealth talks about health insurance for college students:
One of the things that many students overlook as they head back to school is student health insurance. However, this is an important part of protecting yourself from financial catastrophe.
Who needs student health insurance?
If you are under 24, and if you are covered on your parent’s health insurance, then chances are that you will remained covered. However, 24 is the age that insurance companies usually stop …read more
The Olympics: Breaking Children’s Hearts Since 1896

(www.livelywomen.com) — This is absolutely appalling:
A little girl and her song captivated millions of viewers during the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. But what they saw was not what they heard.
Games organizers confirm that Lin Miaoke, who performed “Ode to the Motherland” as China’s flag was paraded Friday into Beijing’s National Stadium, was not singing at all.
Lin was lip-syncing to the sound of another girl, 7-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was heard but not seen, apparently because she was deemed not cute enough.
“The reason was for the national interest,” said Chen Qigang, the ceremony’s musical director, in a state radio …read more
I Don’t Like the Olympics

(www.livelywomen.com) — Every time the Olympics roll around, I cringe.
There’s nothing like pitting countries against one another in a commercialized competition to see who’s the best and make everyone else feel resentful. Mmm, good times. Do I think Olympic athletes have worked really hard to get where they are? Absolutely, and good for them. Do I think our lives, and our prime time programming, should revolve around that fact for the next 2 weeks? No, no I don’t.
Anything that promotes rabid nationalism and holds individuals to virtually impossible standards freaks me out.
I would much rather see athletes and, really, all …read more

… the mom who got her 15-year-old a breast reduction and liposuction because she was worried that the girl would develop an eating disorder! Bravo, Mom. Way to ensure that your child will NEVER have a normal concept of her body.
Haven’t heard about this yet? Jezebel has a video from last week’s episode of The View where we meet 15-year-old Amanda and her wildly misguided mother. Go watch it. I’ll wait here.
“Intern Margaret” remarked in the Jezebel post,
Amanda’s doctor had no problem doing the surgery, since “not everyone is blessed with the right looks,” and he likes to “give children …read more

This weekend, while walking the dogs on Saturday night with my friend, L., I tripped and completely wiped out on the street Not only did I skin my left knee badly and remove a layer of skin from a 3″ x 8″ swath of my right shin/calf, but I also banged my chin on the asphalt (though amazingly that was the least of the injuries and left a bruise but didn’t break the skin). It’s a good thing it happened so fast that I couldn’t even react to catch myself, because I surely would have broken at least one arm …read more
