Ask ED:  What’s to blame for your eating disorder?

We have another question for readers to answer in our “Ask ED” series.
This one comes from “Emily”:
“what do you blame for the start of your disorder, or the instance that caused the disorder to become greater than yourself?
i’m asking this because i don’t have the answer for myself after five and a half years of dealing with this.”
This is a topic we’ve brought up before.  We’ve even wondered if the blame could be placed on someone else, like one’s mother (or maternal figure.)

In response to this post, “S” writes:

How many anorexics, in the process of recovering, have cycled through the entire range of eating disorders?

Personally, I did not cycle through them all, thank goodness.  However, I do think it’s common.

Yesterday, I asked readers to send me questions they would ask of someone with an eating disorder. 
The first question I received is:

Do anorexics secretly (or not so secretly) really think less of bulimics? Or binge eaters?

I think it’s a fair inquiry and I encourage you to reply in the comments section. 
Honestly, when I was actively restricting, I didn’t even think of bulimia or binge eating.  It wasn’t “my thing” and I was too self-absorbed to worry about what someone else was doing.  But I’ve heard that there is indeed some “class warfare” among different ED sufferers.  (Want to read some …read more
