Did You Attend a JK Rowling Tea Party?

JK Rowling Tea Party

A month ago, I wrote about the tea party with Harry Potter author, JK Rowling, some children in England would be attending.  This event celebrated of the release of Rowling’s new book, Tales of Beedle the Bard.
I was wondering if anyone who reads One Book Two Book (or has a family member who does) attended the tea party.  It would be fun if you’d leave a comment and let us know how you enjoyed it.  Was Mom as excited as you?
Were there any other tea paties going on…in libraries, bookstores, homes, schools…to celebrate the book release?
I imagine those attending were as thrilled as …read more

More Meyer Vampires on the Way

A recent shipment of 22 million copies of Stephenie Meyer’s four best sellers is apparently not enough to satisfy her blood thirsty readers. Hachette, the publisher, has gone back to press to print 7.5 million additional copies in all formats.

Happy Anniversary Holes!

Louis Sachar’s best known novel, Holes, celebrates it’s 10th anniversary. It is one of my favorite books and movies because of it’s wit, foreshadowing, and symbolism.

Washington Irving’s Sunnyside – Site of Celebrate Children’s Book Day

OneBookTwoBook.com
Celebrate Children’s Book Day seems planned at a perfect place…Washington Irving’s home, Sunnyside, in Tarrytown, NY, on Sunday, September 28, from 11-5.
I remember a field trip to Sunnyside when I was in 6th grade. (I won’t tell you how many years ago that was…except to say I’m a grandmother now.) What fun we had! Washington Irving and his work have always been memorable because of visiting Sunnyside.
There will be more than 60 authors and illustrators will attending this family event, which includes book signings, demonstrations, characters, music. You’ll also receive tours of
Washington Irving’s historic home.

How Many Katherine’s Make an Adundance?

Printz honor member, John Green, is offering readers a so-called “Blue Light Special” on An Abundance of Katherines to promote his new book, Paper Towns.
The $3.99 paperback will be available August 14 through October 16th, at which it will be replaced by a $7.99 copy. The special edition features an excerpt from the new book, an author Q&A, as well as highlights from the author’s Brotherhood 2.0 video blog, which Green conducted with his brother, Hank, during 2007, and which received more than 10 million views. That project spawned the Nerdfighters online community where the brothers still exchange video …read more

Artemis Fowl and Flatulence? Oh No!

Experience the hilarity of the Irish teacher turned young adult author first hand on July 15th. With over 10 million books sold in the US alone, Colfer surely does not have to tour but with a personality like his it’s no wonder he does…he seems to enjoy kids and the interaction touring brings him.
The Time Paradox (Artemis Fowl, Book 6) will be published July 15th “and will be supported with Colfer’s live one man stage show “Fairies, Feinds, and Flatulence, throughout the US.”
He also recently published Airman.
For tour dates and bookstores to see the show see the Artemis Foul Website. …read more

What’s Going on at Your Local Library for Summer Reading Programs

What’s Going on at Your Local Library for Summer Reading Programs

OneBookTwoBook.com
Even though we live in a small community, our library has always been involved in summer reading programs with related activities which encourage youngsters and their parents to become involved.  My grandchildren, even as pre-schoolers enjoyed these programs and checking out books.
These programs also introduce many youngsters to the library and books in an enjoyable way.  I often took some of my grandchildren’s friends with us.  Then their mom began taking her children and other youngsters.
The summer programs involve reading and related activities that make the library a popular gathering place.  Often there are guest entertainers and authors.
