I was talking with daughter about men and dating recently. She has a new boyfriend and so far he’s very different from her other boyfriends. He takes her places, he pays for things, he asks her questions about herself, really tries to get to know her. He works and goes to school. He goes home at a sensible hour when he’s got an early class. He’s responsible. Last night he came over and sat on the patio with her and when he left, she said, “I think I’m dating a man.” I think she’s right.

Anna David, a relationship expert, who partnered with AXE for their recent Sensitive City Study, has advice for guys who, unlike Bay’s new beau, haven’t quite hit the man-stage yet.

*Approach – Trying to get the girl by following the old dating playbook is only a numbers game. Throwing out lines until you find someone who responds will only get you your last choice. If you want to get the right girl, you need to really focus on her.

*Attitude – If you take a girl to a party, don’t abandon her and expect her to fend for herself. Introduce her around proudly. Get her a drink. But don’t feel like you have to babysit her, either.

*Action – Make small gestures to show her that you care — whether it’s sending a sweet text or grabbing a bag of cherries from the corner store because you know how much your girl likes them.

It’s really very simple, guys. Take some time to connect and soon your girl will be bragging about her new man, too.

Bad boys have their charm, but I have more appreciation for a sensitive guy. According to Bert Sperling, of Sperling’s BestPlaces, as a born and raised California girl, I live in the right state to meet a sensitive man.

To celebrate the launch of their new Skin Contact Shower Gel, AXE Sensitive, AXE partnered with Sperling to show men the “10 Best Cities For Showing Off Your Sensitive Side.”

California cities are mentioned 4 times in the list with L.A. and San Francisco tying for first.

To determine cities with a strong sensitive side, they used criteria such as proximity to cultural centers, good restaurants (those without a drive-thru), magazine subscriptions, as well as the amount of “dude-friendly” activities available locally. “Dude-friendly” would outdoor activities like hunting or fishing.

Best Cities For Showing Off Your Sensitive Side

1 Los Angeles/San Francisco, CA (tied for first)
3 New York, NY
4 Boston, MA
5 Washington, DC
6 Newark, NJ
7 Chicago, IL
8 Santa Ana-Anaheim, CA
9 Miami, FL
10 Cambridge, MA

The list of worst cities is heavy with the Southern cities. This was based on the heavy concentration of “guy-related” activities.

Worst Cities for Showing Off Your Sensitive Side

1 Nashville, TN
2 San Antonio, TX
3 Cincinnati, OH
4 Charlotte, NC
5 Kansas City, MO
6 St. Louis, MO
7 Pittsburgh, PA
8 Fort Worth-Arlington, TX
9 Jacksonville, FL
10 Virginia Beach-Norfolk, VA

I’m not sure how scientific the results are. I don’t believe that fishing makes men more insensitive. My Grandpa was a very sensitive man and he loved to fish. I do agree, however, that getting out of the house, attending music events or dining in nice restuarants makes women feel appreciated, like their men are actually putting some thought and effort into a date. (Note: Married women appreciate “dates” as well as single ladies.)

Nick Cannon, host of “America’s Got Talent,’ and husband of singer Mariah Carey, partnered with AXE as well. “Guys, it doesn’t take much effort to show your girl how much she means to you,” Cannon advises. “Listening, understanding and sharing your ‘inner sensitive guy’ are keys to making your girl happy.”

Or maybe next time you can invite your lady to go along on your next fishing trip. AXE is a brand whose “mission” is to help men up their game with grooming products that make them more personally appealing to the opposite sex.

Yes. Love can be understood in my different languages, so, why not this one?
This is one funny Axe advert. It automatically classifies certain tech geeks under the “You’re such a loser it means you don’t have a girlfriend.” Ouch. Harsh. We all know that that myth has been busted, right? It’s still funny, though.
We’ve got to hand it to Axe to come up with adverts that are easy to remember. I still like the counter with Ben Affleck in it. What about you? What’s your favourite Axe advert?
