My wife and I always make it a surprise to see whether the baby is a boy or a girl until the day he/she/it comes into this world. I know so many people had put in an order for us to have a boy this time. I mean, with 3 daughters and 1 son most people felt it would even things out a bit if we had another boy. But I don’t think anybody asked for a girl this time around. Some may have said nothing but for those who did put in an order asked specifically for a boy. Because so many people wanted a boy and we got a girl all I can say is “neener neener.” Of course if we had a boy I would be just as happy but I am not one who keeps score really.

Some comments I heard before we knew it was a girl:

- “I sure hope it is a boy for your son’s sake.”
- “Let’s hope this time it is a boy for your sake, Steve.”
- “Poor Sammy needs a brother.”

Some comments I heard since we had a baby girl:

- “Wow, poor Sammy”
- “Another girl? Well, I guess you will have to put in another bathroom.”
- “That makes it 4 against 1″
- “Sammy will have a lot of sisters to look after.”
- “Just think of all those weddings you will have to pay for.”

And the funniest comment I heard was actually this morning at the bus stop:

“Well that is great for Sam. Think of all the girl friends his sisters will bring home. He won’t have to search for girls, they will come to him.”

But let’s face it. There are pros and cons to everything if you want to look at it that way. I see it as a blessing to have such wonderful and healthy kids that care for each other. And no matter how many girls or boys there are they will all have a special relationship with one another.

That’s how I look at it.
