When it comes to babies, eco-minded care is not only healthy for the planet, but healthier for your baby’s body, and many times less expensive than conventional baby care options because green baby care assumes a mindset of less is more. Off the top of my head I can think of hundreds of ways to green your baby care, but we don’t really have the time or space for that, so here are six of the best tips for raising a green baby.
Breastfeed: Breastfeeding is one of the greenest baby care choices you can commit to. Not only is it …read more

When my son Cedar was a baby (4 mos) we moved to a new state, and I started a new garden. At first I’d wear Cedar in his baby carrier while I puttered around the garden, but that was sort of a ordeal, and I couldn’t really bend over well. I eventually moved him into a bouncy seat with a cover.
If you’re trying to garden and your baby is along for the ride, here are some tips…
Cage them: I’m not into baby jails, but in the case of gardening, babies will put everything and anything in their mouth, so it …read more
Levi Johnston Is Not A Cad

I have a couple of teens, so to me, the most interesting thing about Sarah Palin at this point is the situation with her teenage daughter, Bristol Palin, and her ex-fiance-baby-daddy, Levi Johnston.
I do not mean this in a tabloid-y gossipy way. I think that these two kids are in a situation that unfortunately happens to teens all over the world, but in their case, it is playing out in the media to a certain point. Kids that age, they are still figuring things out, still very much driven by their hormones or their peers. They are still in the learning-to-be-a-human phase. …read more

This is our Matisse…the cat in the portrait. Her name is Matisse. Not to be confused with a painting by the great artist Henri Matisse. (And yes, he is our cat’s namesake.) In the years before Truman, I spent good money to have an artist come to the house and paint my cat’s portrait. God, how I loved that cat.
She’s still alive, mind you. She’s almost 12 now, and ornery as hell. She tolerates only two people – Rick and me. She often hides when we have guests and sometimes sneaks out just to watch people creep around her house. …read more
17-year-old mother faces neglect charge for abandoning newborn
Two Indianapolis women noticed the size-11 shoebox on the front porch of an aunt they were visiting. As they approached, they saw two tiny legs, kicking out over the edge of the box.
What they found on the doorstep, in the shoebox, just beneath a gray tank top and blue T-shirt was an 8-pound, 20-inch newborn girl.
The elements were cold as she shivered on a blue towel. Nearby was printed message in pencil: "I can’t take care of my baby. Please help."
About seven hours after finding the baby, police took the mother – a 17-year-old high school student in for questioning. …read more
Another “Why didn’t I think of that?” Moment
It boils my blood to read stories like this one, about the two women from Calgary, Canada. I’m not pissed because they are successfully running a baby prep business for expecting parents. No, I’m really very happy for them. I’m only kicking myself for not doing it before they did. I opened a blog, awhile back, that answered pregnancy questions, reviewed a few products and discussed common pregnancy concerns. It was pretty popular, for being an un-sponsored, unpaid blog. Had I any guts, I would have taken it one step further, like I dreamed about doing. I really envisioned a …read more
