This Baldie Sure Can Dance

How did this escape me? I had no idea until tonight, that Hulk Hogan was bald. No idea. It didn’t even occur to me, that this may be the case. Man am I losing my bald-ar. To defend my stupidity, I had never seen him without his ‘do rag. but still you would think that with his I don’t know what you call his hair cut- somekind of mutant mullet, that I might come to the conclusion that he is over compensating, But no. I completely missed the boat on this.

Mr Hogan, its time to leave 1982 in the past. Get rid of the hankie on your head, and shave off that mass of over bleached and over processed hair. Become a real baldie. What are you holding on for. You would be much more attractive if you got rid of the hair, both on your head, and on your face.

Wait a sec, did I just out Hulk Hogan from the bald closet?

I nominate Hulk Hogan for bald man of the week (if only he would really commit).

The Hulkster is Bald

According to the Department of Research Writing at Quick Hair Loss Treatment Centre in Atlanta, studies are showing that swimming in chlorinated pools can result in hair discoloration and hair loss. OK this doesn’t seem like entirely big news to me. When I was a kid we all knew someone who once had blonde hair that turned green – because they swam everyday. I hadn’t heard about it in awhile, but I guess that has really never gone away. There are hair care products that can prevent your hair color from turning – and if it does, there is always a quick fix.

Now the hair loss part is tricky. I know that chlorinated water can damage your hair. I have spent enough time in pools to know that after a while, my own hair feels like straw -and I wished that I was brave enough to shave it off, and start again. But I didn’t know that you could actually lose it. I guess it makes sense. Chemicals cause damage. If you spend a lot of time in a pool, you might want to consider wearing a swim cap, or make sure you are using hair products specifically designed for hair that spends a lot of time in chemically treated water.

Swimming Can Cause Baldness

It’s Superbowl Sunday, which makes me think of athletes and their superstitions. I know a few, don’t wash your gear when you are on a winning streak (yuck), growing beards, shaving your heads for team unity, eating the same thing before and after every game. There are tons of things that people do.

Do you believe in superstitions, and would any of them involve shaving your head. Say, to support your team?

Would You Shave Your Head for Your Team?

The bald look is in! According to hairstylists and male fashionistas everywhere, going completely bald is called “going NBA”.  As this was the look popularized by Michael Jordan and other basketball stars in the 90’s ( I must be out of touch, if I have just heard about this now).

Anyway, shaving your head if you are going bald is THE thing. So, if your locks are starting to thin or your hairline is starting to recede, why wait until its unsightly looking. Why not “jump” on the bandwagon now. You will be very trendy!

Get Your NBA On

In November, Stan Lazaridis will be returning to the game he loves so much.  He has just been cleared to go back to playing soccer for his club, Perth Glory.  Last year Lazaridis was banned from the game, due to testing positive to a banned substance.  A drug that was prescribed for alopecia.

Lazaridis had been taking the drug finasteride.  The reason for the ban, is that finasteride is considered to be a masking agent.  While the authorities slashed the max. sentence (24 months) in half…essentially he was being punished, for taking a drug to help a medical condition.

It has been noted, that the levels in Lazardis’ system were considerably lower than those needed to be an effective masking agent for steroids.

Eventhough he will be allowed to play, he is not to train with his teammates, until the proposed ban is over.

Banned for Being Bald – No More!

Meet Sharod Gandy. He plays basketball up in New Jersey… All-Bergen County for Englewood, which means he’s pretty good.

Now meet Ariel Williams. She’s seven. She’s Sharod’s little sister. And she’s got alopecia.

“She ignores it. She takes it pretty good for a little kid,” Gandy said. “Most little kids would see it and start crying and stuff. But she’s taking it. She doesn’t cry anymore. She used to. But not anymore.

Big brother’s going one step further. He’s organized a fund-raiser at his high school in honor of his little sis. Proceeds benefit the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.

Ariel Fights Alopecia is this 1pm Saturday at Englewood High School in New Jersey. The card includes:

Some of North Jersey’s best high school players, including Hackensack’s Keon Williams and Ridgefield Park’s John Tello, will face a team formed by former Englewood All-State guard Donald Hennie. There also will be a three-point contest, a slam dunk contest and an AAU basketball game.

Australian international soccer player Stan Lazaridis recently tested positive for finasteride. Of course he claims to be using it to regrow hair. Of course he also forgot to get the therapeutic use exemption that would avoid this trouble altogether. Lazaridis, 34, could be facing a two year ban, which would likely end his career.

I remember Lazaridis from the Cup last summer. I liked him; I was rooting for him. You’d think someone at the club or in the national squad would have tipped him off.

Amaechi went public with his homosexuality in February 2007; Hardaway’s comments were made in reaction to Amaechi’s coming out. Amaechi is the first NBA player to come out. He has a book out, Man in the Middle, in which he speaks of his time in the NBA.
