Baldies Rocking the Cannes Film Festival

Seems like everyone in the entire world has been following what’s been going on at the Cannes Film Festival the past couple of weeks.   What you see on Entertainment Tonight or read on Perez Hilton’s blog (which by the way I love) is not necessarily the interesting stuff that has been happening.  I don’t know about you, but I have heard just about enough of who Lindsey Lohan has been kissing, or Angelina Jolie’s babies.
The interesting goings on have nothing to do with A listers (or has beens), its the everyday regular people that have me all excited.  Take …read more

The Bald Woman Paint-eth

I am always on the lookout for people doing fun or interesting things with their baldness. Today, I think I found a most unique individual both dealing with and celebrating her baldness. Let me introduce Anne Vanderlaan. This is a woman who gives new meaning to the words, art therapy. In case you are wondering, she paints landscape pictures with her head. It really is something to see.
The video runs a little long at almost 10 minutes, but when you see what she accomplishes at the end, your jaw will drop to the floor.
Anne, …read more

The Hulkster is Bald

How did this escape me? I had no idea until tonight, that Hulk Hogan was bald. No idea. It didn’t even occur to me, that this may be the case. Man am I losing my bald-ar. To defend my stupidity, I had never seen him without his ‘do rag. but still you would think that with his I don’t know what you call his hair cut- somekind of mutant mullet, that I might come to the conclusion that he is over compensating, But no. I completely missed the boat on this.
Mr Hogan, …read more

Patrick Stewart on Being Bald

I found a great interview that Michael Parkinson did with Patrick Stewart, on the subject of his baldness. Mr Stewart has a really great attitude about living without hair…although he has been bald since the age of 19 (or soon after). It’s really a very witty interview.
I am not able to post it on this blog, but you can watch it here. I suggest that you take a look. It’s fabulous.

Masking Baldness Leads Man To Prison

Mark Houusendove, a 42 year old man from Long Island has been accused of stealing five bottles of hair loss treatment from a pharmacy.  Total dollar value of theft is $50.
What makes this story just even more odd, is that Mr. Houusendove had just finished dropping off some friends who were visiting an inmate in prison, when he decided to make a stop over and steal the hair restoration bottles.
In what world, would a prison sentence be preferable to not having hair????

Big Brother Looking out for Little Sister with Alopecia

Here’s a story that makes me think one day… perhaps… my own children will still get on with each other.
Meet Sharod Gandy. He plays basketball up in New Jersey… All-Bergen County for Englewood, which means he’s pretty good.
Now meet Ariel Williams. She’s seven. She’s Sharod’s little sister. And she’s got alopecia.
“She ignores it. She takes it pretty good for a little kid,” Gandy said. “Most little kids would see it and start crying and stuff. But she’s taking it. She doesn’t cry anymore. She used to. But not anymore.
Big brother’s going one step further. He’s organized a fund-raiser at his …read more

Joyce Sherman’s Going Topless

Now that I’ve caught the attention of the search engines…
Joyce Sherman is going one step further than accepting her hair loss. She’s showing it off to the nation! On last night’s episode of Miami Ink (TLC Channel) Joyce got a technicolor butterfly tattooed on the back of her bald head.
She’s battled the “hair today; gone tomorrow” side of alopecia since childhood, but her follicles gave out for good four years ago. While she still wears a wig for business, the tattoo is a memorial to embracing the her new self. I think she sasy it well:
“The butterfly, to me, is …read more

Bald Man of the Week: Heidi Bratt

This week Baldiness.com honors Heidi Bratt, a Massachusetts resident who’s advocating for alopecia sufferers. Bratt, who has alopecia herself, has been lobbying to get wigs covered by health insurance providers for the last 10 years. Because of her efforts, a state law in in the works, but she has already had a great deal of success. Get this: She has had a hand in persuading the state’s three largest insurers to ADD coverage for wigs to alopecia areata sufferers. That’s right: Adding coverage in a time when health costs are skyrocketing and coverages are being reduced.
“I also find I have …read more
