Baldness Brings Success to Fortune 500 CEOs

Image details: Group Applauding Businessman served by picapp.com
If you asked your “average” CEO of a Fortune 500 company, if he/she would rather be short or bald. The majority of the answers would be “I would rather grow a few inches” (they are not talking hair length). There you have it. Its is that simple. Baldness brings something to the boardroom table. Baldness brings trust to certain situations. Would you trust a business man, who was covering up his head with a bad toupee?
I understand that looks are important in the business world. If …read more

Would You Shave Your Head for Your Team?

It’s Superbowl Sunday, which makes me think of athletes and their superstitions. I know a few, don’t wash your gear when you are on a winning streak (yuck), growing beards, shaving your heads for team unity, eating the same thing before and after every game. There are tons of things that people do.
Do you believe in superstitions, and would any of them involve shaving your head. Say, to support your team?
Please answer the poll below. If you feel like elaborating – leave a comment, to let me know why you chose your answer.

Follica Gets $5.5 Million in Funding

Big news people!  Follica, a new company specializing in treating androgenetic alopecia has just secured $5.5M in venture funding from Intrawest Partners and PureTech Ventures.
Follica Inc,  a company based in Boston, plans to use the money to start a proof of concept study.  With this new funding,  they are planning to generate new hair follicles.
An interesting note on this is that the co-founder on Follica Inc is Dr Rox Anderson, who is credited with advancing the science in laser hair removal.
Just a little ironic, don’t you think?

Girl Donates a Lot of Hair

Grace James, a six year old girl, had her hair cut for the very first time on August 17.  The ponytail that the stylist removed from Grace’s head was 15″ long, and believes that she could have cut another inch or two.  Grace donated her hair to Locks of Love.  Grace has stated that she wanted to donate her hair, because her mother and her cousins have done so in the past.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization …read more

Trichotillomania!

Say that five times fast!
(Before we go any further the answer is, “Yes, I will delete any comments consisting of ‘that that that that that.’”)
Trichotillomania. Of Greek origin: trich (hair) + tillein (to pull) + and maniaor (frenzy; morbid desire). Put it all together and you get the compulsive urge to pull one’s hair out.
It’s estimated the 1% – 5% of the world’s population suffers from “trich,” and approximately 2/3s of those who suffer are women. Trichotillomania is classified as an impulse control disorder and may be related to obsessive-compulsive disorder. Both medication as well as therapy have been …read more

Hair Replacement for Burn Victims

Hair Replacement for Burn Victims

Just so people don’t get the idea that I’m totally against hair replacement, I’m happy to highlight a story like this one from the Worcester Telegram. It tells the story of Blerim Grajcevci, who as a five year-old in Kosovo sufffered severe burns that have left him unable to grow hair on much of his head. Working through organizations such as the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, individuals, such as Blerim, can get access to free or affordable hair transplants.
Aging is one thing; trauma is clearly another.

March Is Scams Awareness Month

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT), a bureau of the British government, is running “Scams Awareness Month” during March. And that unfortunately has more than a bit of relevance for Bald Men.
Unscrupulous people are keen to play on insecurities in an effort to separate you from your hard earned cash. One of the first posts I wrote here at Baldiness was about Glenn Braswell, a man convicted for marketing phony baldness treatments. (Mr. Braswell has since died.) Mike Haley, Head of OFT Scambusters Team said:
“Scammers exploit people’s desperate hopes for a miracle cure to their health problem. Not only are …read more
