Would you buy a car from a guy who wore a toupee?
What about a lawyer – would you choose to have a lawyer (who wore a rug) defend you?
What about a doctor? Would you have a problem if your doctor covered up his baldness.

Car salesman – No -but if he really listened to what I wanted, then I might change my mind. But I really think that if he is covering up his head, then he might not be giving me all of the information that I want to know.

Lawyer – Yes! But I don’t really have an answer to why that is….and I think I might choose a lawyer based on how bad his toupee looked. Again, I am not sure why that is.

Doctor – No way, if the dude is wearing a rug, then I am not comfortable with him treating me at all.

I came across this little rant at Vox Populi at the Savannah Now online newspaper. I don’t know who wrote it, I suppose its safe to say the person comes from Georgia.

“I am so tired of going to church on Sunday only to hear my preacher preach about women who wear wigs and have weaves in their hair. I have alopecia and have no choice but to wear a wig. I think it is insulting to have a minister preach on such things.”

This person brings up a good point. While I believe that we should all be comfortable in our skin, there are places where wigs and hairpieces (especially for women) are helpful. Mostly its to put other people at ease. Unless we are very comfortable with our baldness (and that isn’t always easy) – other people become pretty uneasy. Its too bad, but its the way it is these days.

While I think church is a place, where baldness should be accepted and embraced. Not everyone with alopecia feels the same way that I do. If wearing a wig brings about confidence and helps that person feel beautiful, then I support that decision – and so should everyone else – including the minister of the church this person belongs to.

Perhaps a talk with the minister is in order and show off your baldness. Maybe once the minister understands your condition, and your reasons for wearing the wig – it might change things.

It has come to my attention, that baldies discriminate against other bald people. I am not sure why this is, since we are all in the same boat. Some may have more hair than others…but sooner or later, we are all going to end up with very little or no hair upon our heads.
I have decided to put up a new poll, which can be found on the sideboard. Please voice your opinion on the discriminatory issue. If you need more room, to voice your opinion – please leave a comment in this post.

Did you know that for every hair transplant being performed in the United States, there are 5 breast augmentation surgeries being performed.

Now I know a lot of men, from all walks of life. White collar professionals, blue collar workers, students, bald headed, hairy…you name a group, and I know someone in it. I asked all of the men that I know, if they would encourage their wife or girlfriend to have breast augmentation surgery…..75% of the men asked, said no – not even if it would make their partner feel better about herself. When I asked them the same question, but inserted the word “mother” or “sister” for “wife or girlfriend”, that number went up to about 90%.

I know of one woman who has had this surgery done, and she did it so she could feel younger – and so that men would be more interested in her. I think perhaps she should meet some of the men I know. None of them would be interested in that scene.

So now I ask you this question. If women are having breast augmentation surgeries because they think this is what will attract men….why are men having hair transplants (although at a much less frequent rate). Is it because they think that women wouldn’t be attracted to a bald man?

If that is actually the case, then maybe these men, should spend a lot more time reading this blog.

OK people! A new poll is up. This weeks topic is vulnerability. Considering all the talk about baldness in the workplace – and people complaining about lack of fairness. I thought it was high time to ask the question, where do you feel most vulnerable. If you want to elaborate – please do by using the comment section, at the bottom of this post.
And so here is this weeks poll.

Lately, I have been hearing rumblings from people, who view baldness as a liability in the work force. Especially, when it comes to looking for a job. I don’t really understand this, since I tend to think of bald people as honest and trustworthy.
I would love to know what you think. Please vote in the poll – and if you want to expand, please feel free to leave a comment.

Usually I am ok with my hair issues. USUALLY! But sometimes when I see that there is 10 hairs or more in the sink (or shower), I temporarily lose my head. It takes a few moments of reciting “ohmigawd” before I become rational.
Just wondering if this happens to the rest of you?

Do you find that a support group helps you with your hair loss situation?
Do you find it comforting, to be around people who are dealing with the same issues?
Could you please let me know, or vote in my poll.
Just for curiosity sakes….Thanks.
