Hello Baldies?

Hello Baldies?

I have been writing for b5media for almost two years now.  I know that there are people out there who read what I write.   Perhaps I have just written on extraordinarily chatty blogs in the past-and have been spoiled by it. Just wondering why you people don’t speak up.  Can you give me a hint?  Sometimes I get emails, but rarely comments on this blog.  Don’t tell me that baldies are shy – because I just don’t believe that.
Are you just all indifferent to the world of baldness?  Or is there something more to it?  Have I been left …read more

Choose Your Sunscreen Wisely: Tips for Summer

My daughter was kind enough to remind me that yesterday was the first day of summer. She loves the calender in her room… particularly the holiday notations.
Summer means sun and sun means sunburn… if you’re not careful. Every Bald Man should know that sunscreen is an essential part of the survival kit. Yeah, sure, there’s skin cancer and premature skin aging risks to be sure, but you don’t have to think long-range to get motivated. Just remember how much a sunburn hurts; that should do it for most of us.
But be careful when you select your sunscreen. The Environmental Working …read more

Book: Medicalized Masculinities

Here’s an interesting looking book: Medicalized Masculinities, edited by Dana Rosenfeld and Christopher Faircloth. From the Book Description out at Amazon.com:
When medicalization—the characterization of human traits in terms of disease and ailment—first appeared as a concept in the 1970s, most social science gender scholarship focused on female or genderless bodies. The work on men, health, and medicine was scant and tended to depict masculinity as intrinsically damaging to men’s health.
Medicalized Masculinities considers how these threads in scholarship failed to consider the male body adequately and presents cutting-edge research into the definition and regulation of masculinity by medicine. Renowned health and …read more

Not-Yet-Candidate Fred Thompson Leads GOP Poll

Whadya know? Fred Thompson, Official Baldiness.com Unannounced Presidential Candidate, is the leading Republican candidate according to a Rasmussen poll released today.
Thompson held a statistically insignificant one percentage point lead over former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani in the national poll of likely Republican primary voters, 28 percent to 27 percent. It was the first time all year anybody but Giuliani has led the 10-strong Republican field. (link)
Technically it’s first place, but that’s like giving answers on a math test to the 12th decimal because that’s what the calculator said. (For the record, that’s dumb and a dead giveaway to the …read more

Dr. Bernstein Answers the BIG Question…

I had wondered myself; now I wonder no more.
Q: Dr. Bernstein, why have you not had a hair Transplant? I’m sure this question gets asked a lot. Thanks.
A: Yes, all the time. My donor area is very thin (so I am not a good candidate) and I have gotten used to being bald. It has been years.

Seth Godin – Baldness Is An Advantage

Internet and marketing guru Seth Godin has revealed the secret of his success over at Bestseller Interviews.
4) Between your books and blogs, the amount of insightful content you produce is staggering. How do you do it? Does being bald help?
Being bald, of course, is a cooling mechanism, and no sense overheating the cranium.
There you have it! Pay no attention to his other comments on observation, selling, earning permission, finding your niche, etc. It’s all right here: The KEY is in the CRANIUM!

Laser Hair Treatment Report – BBC Watchdog

Here’s a nice YouTube video on Advanced Hair Studio, which has come under fire of late for it’s misleading advertising claims. The clip – about 10 minutes long – if from a BBC program (or should I say “programme?”) and takes the form of investigative, hidden-camera journalism .

Fifth International Congress on Hair Research

While I dug out from a crazy week of late nights and travel at the day job last week, some of the top brains in the hair biz were in Vancouver at the Fifth International Congress on Hair Research. Baldness isn’t the only topic on the agenda; they’ll be covering everything hair related. Too much… too little… causes and chemo… transplants to tissue engineering… Soup to nuts!
I’ll keep my eyes out for any news to come from the conference in the next few days.

Fred Thompson: Official Baldiness.com Unannounced Presidential Candidate

Get set, everyone! The 2008 US Presidential Election is only… well… 17 or so months away. Start planning those Super Tuesday parties now.
Here at Baldiness, we don’t have much to say about politics, but we are going to follow a couple candidates. Politicians – particularly Presidential candidates – tend to be aging, while males… not coincidentally, in my opinion, the same demographic most likely to experience androgenic alopecia! My mandate demands I track the hopefuls!
While I get up to speed on everyone – there are still like a dozen or so on from each of the two major parties alone …read more
