Beat the Heat … with a Bat or a BEAST!

Late afternoon thunder quashed our plans to swim at the pool, so Rick and Truman found another cool way to beat the heat – water balloon baseball.
.
The rules are pretty simple, sort of like regular baseball. But, it’s best played when there are no rules. Then you can take the big bucket of water balloons (and water from broken balloons) and dump them on Rick’s head when he’s just about to pitch to Truman.
.
.

I think there must be some calories burned in the game too, like when you’re running for the back door from a husband who wants revenge.

Learning the Power of Comaraderie

The past three months we have spent our Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings at the ball field, weathering chilling temperatures, burning heat waves, heavy downpours and wild temper tantrums. In the end, the A1 Division Cards T-ball team took home the championship with an 8-0-1 season. My son took home a tall, red trophy, but we won a bigger prize this year. We learned the power of camaraderie.
I admit I was concerned when I learned that the league would be keeping score at this level. Truman promoted this year to 1A from the Rookies just by chance. He was the …read more

Giving in to the Hot-n-Fresh

This was our day to bring snacks after the T-ball game. I had mentioned previously how every other parent on our team assigned to snacks this season had brought doughnuts – which I don’t mind my son eating on occasion – but the “good mother” in me thought I had better bring some healthy snacks. I had several people tell me that I should not worry about the team’s 4-0 winning streak, and just bring some fun, healthy snacks. Rick, however, suggested we not mess with a trend. You know, like how after Alabama started winning last fall and we …read more

Baseball and Hot Dogs

According to the latest polls, the hot dog is still the number one food at baseball stadiums around the country. Even with all the exotic foods out there these days the hot dog is still king.
Is there anything that hits the spot more than a hot dog on game day? With baseball’s Opening Day coming up Monday April 6th, I thought you might be interested to hear there is a group of people who think the hot dog should be included in the baseball staple song, “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.”
“Take Me Out To The Ball Game,” is …read more

Red Sox Star David Ortiz in Hospital for Irregular Heartbeat

Psychosomatic? The Boston Red Sox is currently 71 (wins)-61 (losses) and has lost four straight games. Their star player, David Ortiz aka Big Papi, contender for the American League’s Most Valuable Player award has been experiencing irregular heartbeat.
He received his first cardiovascular work-up on August 19th after the Red Sox were defeated 13-5 by the New York Yankees. And again on Monday before they lost to the Oakland A’s.
Drugs, including anabolic steroids, can cause heartbeat irregularities, but people should not jump to that conclusion because there are many possible causes, [Dr. Michael A.] Coady said. Stress and overtraining can also …read more
