The caste system of eating disorders

If you’re not from the “world” of eating disorders, you might think that all disordered eaters treat one another the same.
Not so.
You see, like any other “clique”, those with EDs have a caste system, a heirarchy of sorts.  It’s not usually discussed, but it definitely exists. 
Allow me to explain (and feel free to let me know if any of this has changed recently or if I’m missing something)…

Parents!  Don’t ignore the not-so-obvious warning signs of eating disorders

How many times can I tell parents to be on the lookout for signs of eating disorders in their children, even those who seem “too young” to be worried about such a thing as having the “perfect” body?
If you’re a mom, dad, grandparents or guardian, it’s time to open your eyes and watch out for the following signs that may not seem at first glance like indicators of disordered eating:

Religion and Recovery

For many people, religion is comforting; for others, it’s suffocating.  For me, it’s somewhere in between.
Though my recovery (or path to it) was not precipitated nor assisted by spirituality, I can see where it might be helpful for some anorexics, bulimics and/or binge eaters.
In my mind, I imagine that a church or religious community could be a loving, forgiving environment in which to heal.  I envision people embracing the eating disordered man or woman rather than condemning him or her for causing so much pain among family members and friends.
