What is the average time for a birthday party? Is there any time you won’t allow your child to attend a birthday party? I know it is summertime and all but I was curious on this. We were recently invited to some summer birthday parties, some ofhich were fine but some of the times left me puzzled. Here’s a few, you tell me which you’d be fine with and why or why not.
Saturday noon-2pm
Saturday 2p.m.-4p.m.
Sunday 3p,m. -6p.m.
Wednesday 6:30p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Growing up we were only allowed those after lunch and before dinner. I’m guessing this was to make sure we were …read more
Have Some Good Clean Fun!

Look what’s new at the Birmingham Zoo! It’s some freaky foam thingie called a Foam Zone, which Rick says reminds him of “foam night” at bars in the 1990s. I don’t remember that, but Rick did say he never actually went to “foam night,” so that’s reassuring.
The foam is made of kid-friendly soap suds, which is not supposed to damage clothing or sting eyes or irritate skin. And it’s, you know, clean….right? Someone mentioned how cool it would be to have at a birthday party, so I did a quick Google search and found that PartyMachines.com sells those machines …read more

As mothers/fathers we all go through the birthday ritual, you know the whole cake, ice cream and a present or two. Sometimes if the child is lucky enough he or she gets to have a birthday party with all his/her family and friends. This isn’t always the case though, sometimes a birthday falls the wrong time of the year, other times a child must go to another parent’s house for their birthday. Or in our case, one family member won’t be here for it so you must decide what to do.
What’s your take on the “early birthday party”? I’ve heard …read more
Birthday Party Politics
The politics of kids birthday parties can be so tricky! My daughter will be 9 soon and we are trying to decide what to do for her party. In the meantime, Little Miss Social has been invited to two different birthday parties at the same time this weekend. Both girls are pretty good friends. There is more to the story than just two parties on the same night. A few weeks back, one of the birthday girls – let’s call her Jane, mentioned to Little Miss Social (LMS) that her …read more
French Dinner Party Birthday
Yesterday my daughter was a guest at her friend’s 10th birthday – let’s call her Annie. Annie and her Mom decided to have a French Dinner Party as her theme.
The invitations were cute – they were simple postcards made on the computer with the Paris skyline and all the party details. The invitations requested that the girls dress up and bring a something “French” for a game. We hunted high and low, but ended up finding a really cute tin lunchbox/purse at 5 Below that was light brown with travel designs on it and it said “Bon Voyage”. According to …read more

Big Kid Birthday Parties – January 5th
“When he turned five, you just invited a bunch of his friends over and they all ran around the backyard for a couple of hours until you called them in for cake and ice cream. You did the party at a pizza place thing when he was eight. Last year he had a sleepover party with a couple of friends.”
But what kind of a party to you host, when he is turning sixteen?? How about twenty-one? The book above covers parties all the major parties all way up to 100! Now wouldn’t that make for cool reading!

Castle Birthday Cake
Yes, this just looks as if it would be hard to make, but I’m not telling you to start from scratch… you are using a mix. And the frosting comes from a can too! Decorating the cake will probably be the hardest part, but you have to admit, it looks like a lot of fun. Just don’t be tempted to eat all the gum drops!
And I think that this cake would work for a boy or a girl, don’t you think??
