Sometimes blogs on pregnancy can get a bit too serious (like this one sometimes). We need to remember the lighter side of life and for this, I share with you a blog I just found yesterday. Love it! And – it’s for dads too. A whole section in the forum is for guys only.
The blog is called His Boys Can Swim and this is the post that drew my attention to it: List of 51 pregnancy old wives tales: Your baby’s sex revealed!
Have a peak at it and have some fun.

Hi folks – some of you are regular readers and some of you are new here so you may know know about my other work. I do write some other blogs, including two others for b5media. But, another one of my blogs, called Marijke: Nurse Turned Writer, is one that I write just for health information when something catches my interest.
Now, I have a question for you. Marijke: Nurse Turned Writer is in the running for Best Canadian Blog. But to win that, I need votes. Lots of them. Any chance you may be interested in checking out the blog …read more

Veteran’s Day in the United States, Remembrance Day here in Canada. Regardless of the name, the sentiment is the same.
As our veterans age and succumb to age and illness, there are fewer and fewer who remember. The symbol of the poppy, worn in Canada to remember those who fought in past wars and who are on peacekeeping missions now, is being seen less and less on the streets and sidewalks of our country.
I was born of Dutch parents who lived through WWII. They remember the Canadian soldiers as they liberated the Netherlands. They remember the Canadian soldiers who rescued them …read more

“Teenage pregnancy” stigmatizing, prejudicial concept
July 16, 2008 by Marijke Durning, RN

Well, I’m as guilty as most others who jumped on the band wagon about the so-called pregnancy pact that never was. The amount of uproar over that headline far outweighed any reports that the story wasn’t true. I guess that’s always the way when errors are made in media. After all, look at retractions in newspapers. The original stories may be front-line news, but a retraction would be buried in a sidebar on some page inside.
Here is an opinion piece in the Los Angeles Times that discusses how our “increasing obsession with teenage pregnancy over the last three
decades” made it …read more
Mood swings – is there a way to avoid, or at least minimize them?

I think we’ve all either been part of or have witnessed the effects of hormonal mood swings. One moment everything is just great and the next, well, the next minute, it’s time to duck for cover.
As much as people do joke about it, it’s not fun being the one having the mood swings any more than it is to be on the receiving end. It’s frustrating to feel like your feelings and reactions are just out of your control.
This blog, Mom Squawk, has a post on How to minimize mood swings during pregnancy.
What do you think? Have you had mood …read more
