Blueberries are one of the super foods for our bodies, and our immune system. They’re loaded with antioxidants, so their a handy little food to have around all year.

Blueberries are super simple to freeze. Just rinse them in warm water and let them dry. Spread them in a single layer on a cookie sheet and place the cookie sheet in the freezer. When the berries are frozen you can pull the cookie sheet out and put the blueberries in a plastic bag and store them in the freezer until you’re ready to use them. If you freeze your berries this way you can put quite a few in one bag, then just pour out the blueberries you need.

Stock up on blueberries during National Blueberry Month. They’re great to top cereal, make smoothies, fruit desserts, fruit salads, and fruit syrups all year round.

Blueberries are high in antioxidants which are thought to help protect our bodies from free radicals. They’re high in vitamin E and C, among other important antioxidants. Check out some of the studies at the US Blueberry Council for more on the health benefits of the tiny blueberry.

Now is the time of year to stock up on blueberries. When blueberries are in season you can find them for a very reasonable price at local farmers markets. Or better yet grow your own. Blueberries grow on a shrub, and some varieties can be grown in containers.

Blueberries are great mixed with strawberries to make a healthy red white and blue dessert for the 4th of July. Get your antioxidants, and your dessert too!
