You may have seen a little blue bottle on the laundry aisle and wondered what is was for and if anyone ever buys it… Mrs. Stewart’s Bluing.
Bluing?
Well, the truth is that people DO buy it and there are a ton of things you can do with it. It comes under the title of “Good Stuff to Have”

First of all, bluing is environmentally friendly, totally safe, and hypoallergenic. The worst thing about it is it can cause blue spots if you splash it on something accidentally.

Traditionally it is used to whiten and brighten laundry. It will not bleach your clothes, or cause colors to fade but it will make the colors more vivid and the whites “whiter”. Just add about 1/4 teaspoon to a quart of water and add it to the final rinse of your laundry.

But there are a ton of other uses for it.

Add 1/4 teaspoon to a gallon of warm water to rinse your crystal. It will keep it sparkly.

Add a few drops of bluing to a few drops of water and you have blue ink.

Use a few drops in a quart of warm water as a final rinse for white hair…It takes the yellow out.

Use on fire ant bites for immediate relief..other bites too.

Add it to bird baths and fountains to reduce algae buildup. (It is not toxic to birds or fish)

You can make crystal formations with it. The directions are on the back of the box.

Bluing is one of those things that our grandmothers (and great grandmothers) used that has lost popularity. It is inexpensive and eco-friendly… two perfect reasons to buy it!
