Ay, yi yi. This is pretty sick. And pretty SLICK for the paparazzi (not to mention tabloid media) to create a war-of-weight.

One question burns in my mind: Does Rani Mukerji look heavy to you? I think she’s drop-dead gorgeous, personally.

I came across an article on Zee News that suggests Indian actress Kareena Kapoor’s shrinking body is a kind of thinspiration to her colleagues/competition. (Not familiar with Ms. Kapoor? See previous Breaking the Mirror posts here and here.)
Says the Zee News Bureau (and remember that this is kind of tabloid-y material, so it’s certainly not gospel):

Wow. I really thought Hollywood couldn’t be topped, but Bollywood seems to be well on its way to distorting women’s body images everywhere.

Last week, I blogged about Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor’s shrinking body.
It seems that the disappearing star has made more news headlines thanks to a few recent fainting spells.
As the City Times, an offshoot of the Khaleej Times Online, reported yesterday, Ms. Kapoor’s size zero is causing quite a stir.
Claiming to want to be like Victoria Beckham (a.k.a., Posh Spice), Kapoor says she isn’t starving herself. In fact, she says:
“I am not thin. The media makes me out to be. I don’t diet. One look at me and you know I am quite healthy.”
Not surprisingly, the media loves her:

As the City Times, an offshoot of the Khaleej Times Online, reported yesterday, Ms. Kapoor’s size zero is causing quite a stir.

Not surprisingly, the media loves her:

“Ad Man Prahlad Kakkar says, ‘Now she looks more attractive. She has broken her golu image and now looks like a woman. She doesn’t need to put on weight or else she will again look motu.’”

Now, I don’t know what “golu” or “motu” mean, but I can take a good guess.

However, it would seem that the desire for a size zero has reached Bollywood.
According to two articles from CNN-IBN (which you can read here and here), Indian actress Kareena Kapoor went from voluptuous to scary skinny. In the words of one author (Ginny Narula), Kapoor’s:

I’ve known many women from the country of India, and all seemed to have a completely rational sense of what a “normal” woman looks like. Most had no problem with their curves, believing them to be beautiful, sexy, natural.

However, it would seem that the desire for a size zero has reached Bollywood.

According to two articles from CNN-IBN (which you can read here and here), Indian actress Kareena Kapoor went from voluptuous to scary skinny. In the words of one author (Ginny Narula), Kapoor’s:

“…size zero might get her plump assignments but it certainly is sending out a wrong message to all the young girls out there, who in their aspiration to look like her might starve themselves, ending up with serious medical implications.”

The tone of these articles implies that perhaps Indian women have not had to deal with these images before, but I can’t verify that. Consequently, I’d love to hear from anyone with more information on this topic or with firsthand experience as a native of or long-term visitor to India.
