10 Things To Do With All That Cabbage

During the fall we always have plenty of cabbage. We usually get together and make some sauerkraut, but I still have plenty left over to make some of my favorite recipes. Today I thought I’d share some cabbage recipes.

Even if you don’t have cabbage growing in your garden, this time of year you can find it for very low prices at your local supermarket, or farmer’s market. You might even get lucky and have a friend or neighbor bring you a head or two of extra cabbage from their garden.

Cabbage et al Against Bladder Cancer

I’ve written about the anti-cancer properties of cruciferous vegetables — broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, and the likes — many times before.
Here’s another report on it’s impact on bladder cancer:
An international team led by New Zealand’s Agresearch has discovered that chemicals in the cabbage family of vegetables can decrease the incidence of bladder cancer by more than fifty percent.
“Broccoli sprouts were able to protect against bladder cancer and it was really a very significant effect,” Agresearch’s Dr Rex Munday explained. “It reduced the incidence of bladder cancer by fifty percent.”

Fight Prostate Cancer with Kale and Yoga

A small 6 month long study involving patients with prostate cancer suggests that a plant-based diet, coupled with a stress-reduction regime, can help slow, stop, or perhaps even reverse the progression of prostate cancer.
Patients were taught to increase consumption of plant-based foods such as whole grains, cruciferous and leafy green vegetables, beans and legumes, and fruit, and to decrease the intake of meat, dairy products and refined carbohydrates. They were also provided with stress management training, which included meditation, yoga and t’ai chi exercises.
