According to Dr. Farkouh research studies state that there is an epidemic of diabetes in North America. The epidemic is due to the lack of exercise, the foods that we consume and our lifestyles and stress.

Our schools are cutting back on the physical education and the halls are lined with pop and candy machines, which also adds to the epidemic.

Parent’s are going through the drive up and getting dinner on their way home from work, which is usually loaded with fats. The parents will go through the same window grabbing a coffee loaded with caffeine, muffin or something worse for breakfast in a rush to get to work.

These are just a few of the things that are causing diabetes and heart failure in young adults and children to be at an epidemic level.

With all of the wonderful new blends of coffee and the aromas enticing us into the coffee shops on every corner, it is harder then ever to cut back on caffeine.

Caffeine is also found in most soft drinks and in the warm cup of hot chocolate that makes us fell so warm and fuzzy on cold winter days.

Studies have shown that a high intake of caffeine throughout the day can add to the risk of (cardiovascular conditions).

It has been proven that caffeine can cause irregular heart rhythms, raise blood pressure, increase heart rate and your breathing rate, caffeine can also cause higher levels of stress hormones. It is also a well-known fact the caffeine can cause your blood pressure to elevate.

Aug. 1, 2002 — Like millions of Americans, self-described coffee addict Kathy Liebswager can’t quite function in the mornings until she has had her caffeine fix. She typically drinks eight to 10 cups throughout the day, and she says she believes the caffeine has a calming effect on her.

Shortly after consumption, your systolic rate increases by over 7.5% and diastolic raises 7% and heart rate is up 7-10 beats per minute. And why is this? Here ya go…

Most energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine and taurine, an amino acid also found in protein-containing foods such as meats and fish. Both have had effects on heart function and blood pressure in some studies. In contrast, “sports drinks” in general contain various mixtures of water, sugars and salts alone, without chemicals aimed at increasing “energy” or alertness.

The study also concluded that the effectiveness of medication could also be decreased. That’s not good! Don’t even get me started on the whole Red Bull and Vodka thing! Haha.
