There are a couple of times a year that our already hectic schedule gets shot into overdrive. Early spring is one of those times of year, especially when the “perfect storm” of sports schedules (i.e. some sports starting before others end), and, various school performances come into play.

Especially as the kids get older, I often feel like we could use a scheduler, or, an air traffic controller or something. Add in the fact that we both work, some mornings require a planning summit, and, synchronized watches.

Keeping track of it all is necessary, and, is just a way of life with kids. As much as I love computers, technology, and, gadgets, I have to confess, our family planner is actually a monthly calendar just printed from Microsoft Word, and, it’s taped to the refrigerator. We write events in the appropriate boxes, and, hope we can read them when a box gets too full, and, there are arrows drawn all over the place.

But, there are all kinds of free online resources out there to help you schedule your busy family (and work) life. Here’s a sample:

30 Boxes – a free, easy to use service, even has it’s own blog! (Though I’m not sure if I should be offended that one of the supporting quotes about it reads, “It’s so easy my mom can do it”, I still think it’s cool)

Google Calendar – calendar service from our Internet overlords

Calendar Hub – there’s a demo here, and, they have a blog, too.

Sponge Cell – (no, it’s not where SpongeBob stays after he is arrested) allows you to enter natural language and turn it into a calendar entry (i.e. Basketball practice at 7 on Friday). I tried it out here, it’s pretty cool, and, it can sync with your iPod. Sponge blog is here. That’s just fun to say.

Airset – put your calendars, lists, bookmarks all in one place

HipCal – online calendar and to-do list

Kiko – online calendar, and, a blog, too.

Planzo – I have no idea if it works, but, George Bush uses it. Try it out here.

Time and Date.com – a handy service with information about dates, times, and, other planning tools. Has printable calendars, too.

So, I’ll be dreaming of cool online calendars while knowing my family probably won’t get past AIM Instant Messaging, Webkinz or the Wiggles sites, so, let me live vicariously through you!

How do you keep track of your family’s busy schedule?
