Having Cancer Sucks, But Being a Cancer Caretaker Isn't Fun, Either

When someone in my family is diagnosed with cancer, I would like to think that I’d react by saying something along the lines of, “Oh, I’m so sorry. I will be here with you every step of the way. Whatever you need, I will do it. We will get through this together.” Instead, when my 65-year-old mother was diagnosed with breast cancer this year, my thoughts were more like, Oh crap. I don’t have time for this. How am I supposed to take care of her and take care of my own three kids, and work, and train for my upcoming marathon, let alone have any semblance of normalcy and free time in my already hectic life?
