Men More Likely to Get Diabetes

New research out of the UK says that middle-aged British men are more likely to become Type 2 diabetic than their female counterparts. Over 92,000 men have diabetes, compared with about 47,000 women.
The study, from charity Diabetes UK, confirmed that men “35 to 54 are almost twice as likely to have diabetes as women.” Overall, the poor diet and health habits are blamed for this discrepancy. With Type 1 Diabetes, (which used to be called “Juvenile Diabetes” because it most commonly hit people under the age of 30) the body no longer produces insulin. If you have diabetes, you may develop problems with arthritis at some point. New research suggests a connection between the two diseases.
There are a couple reasons for this. As this article mentions, one is that if you are overweight you are more likely to get both diabetes and arthritis.
But there’s an even more interesting link. Type 2 diabetes is “thought to be related to the most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis, by chronic inflammation.” There’s also a link with Type 1 diabetes which can cause “high uric acid levels, which …read more
Pesticides and living on a very high mountain can increase diabetes risk

Reading through all the diabetic news today, I saw a trend. There are apparently 10 billion things that cause or increase your risk for diabetes. I always take what I read with a grain of salt. Here are two examples of what I found.
They are now saying that sunlight, vitamin D, helps prevent the occurrence of type 1 diabetes among children. Which means the opposite, children living in higher altitudes, will have an increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes.
