The season that Karina Smirnoff danced with Mario Lopez  was so much fun. The audience suspected that something was happening between the two and we were not wrong. Lopez and Smirnoff lived together after the show, but later broke off their romantic relationship.

Awhile back I heard that Karina was dating fellow Dancing With the Stars dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy.  I could see the attraction – they are in the same business and both are beautiful, athletic people. The only possible drawback being Maksim’s arrogance. Oh my goodness that man comes across of so ridiculously full of himself. Confidence is one thing, but I remember the uproar one year when he made comments about a couple of his fellow dancers being too heavy – one was a dancer who won the show twice with her celebrity partner.

Earlier this month, Karina and Maksim called off their engagement. One the reasons given for the breakup included scheduling problems – they had no time for a wedding. That sounded like a silly excuse – if you want to get married, get married. A big wedding is not necessary, it’s optional. The bottom line is that it’s none of anyone’s business. The reason belongs to the couple and they don’t “owe” it to the public.

I did, however, find it interesting that they are still friends. Karina Smirnoff told People magazine that…..

 
“It’s kind of easy to stay friends,” Smirnoff told PEOPLE.

“We were friends for 14 years, before anything else. It will always remain this way. It’s not difficult. We both think the world of each other,” she added.

I am friendly with a few of my exes. I don’t have to work with them, so that makes it easier. I like that this couple is taking the high road and not bad-mouthing each other or spilling secrets. It shows a lot of class.

Karina & Maksim Remain Friends Post Breakup

Mind boggling! To say the least.

And this is just days after “charges were filed against him for allegedly assaulting her.” I am dying to know what the theme of this duet consists of, aren’t you?

This is either a classic case of battered woman’s syndrome, or (as some on the Web have speculated) it’s all for publicity. I vote for the former of those choices and not that latter. What do you think?

Rihanna and Chris Brown Will Sing a Duet

“He was surrounded by movie stars and celebrities and this young man who neither drinks nor smokes was intoxicated with it all…Unfortunately, he lacked the resources to maintain the opulent lifestyle of his new friends. Even more unfortunately, he had almost unfettered access to hundreds of thousands of dollars with few controls on his spending ability, until it was too late.”

Rafaello Follieri, pleaded guilty last month to defrauding investors out of $2.4 million. Anne Hathaway was not found to be culpable by investigators in any of Follieri’s admitted crimes. Apparently, the fact that she is a movie star was the thing that pushed him into a life of crime. What an ass.  He lies, he cheats, he steals and it’s her fault because she has wealthy friends and is successful at what she does? 

I’m tired of excuses, tired of people who use weakness as an excuse for bad behavior.  Anyone past the age of 5 has heard of the Golden Rule, has some idea of what right and wrong means. Don’t do the wrong thing just because you are able to get away with it for awhile, be an adult, a responsible citizen, and if you’ve got baggage, as we all do, carry it yourself, don’t add it to your partner’s already heavy load. 

In the words of Cordelia Chase, former Buffy Scoobie and ex-resident of Sunnydale:

“…deal with it. Embrace the pain, spank your inner moppet, whatever, but get over it.”

It’s Not My Fault

One of the couples who gets a lot of press is Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo. They are in some sort of gossip news every single day – constant quotes from Jessica about how she’s finally truly in love, how he’s the love of her life, how she can be herself with him or whatever. Good for her, I wish her happiness, but do we really need daily updates on this couple? Do you wake up in the morning, grab your computer, and quickly scan the news praying that Tony and Jessica are still in love? Does Jessica Simpson want all this constant relationship buzz out there? What does she think of headlines like Sorry, Cowboys Fans…’Yoko Romo’ Might Be a Permanent Fixture? Does this sell more cds? Does it get her more movie roles? 

I can understand people wanting to work in a creative field, but I can’t understand the need for celebrity, the need for the buzz. I can’t imagine trying to meet and get to know someone with all those eyes on me and  I can’t imagine having to endure a break-up in the spotlight. Who needs that added pressure? Being a normal human being is challenging enough.

Jessica Simpson’s Love Life

A few weeks ago, watched a segment on Cougars, presented by Kristen Schaal, on the Daily Show. It was clever and I found the over-the-top comments such as – I’m paraphrasing here – take her in the back and make out with her or she’ll never get to sleep tonight, funny. The “Cougar” was a woman in her 50s, lovely and well-coiffed. Schaal had her “assistant” place her on John Stewart’s lap and he was instructed to pet her. Stewart appeared very uncomfortable, part of the skit, of course. The idea was to demonstrate how inappropriate it was to label women. Okay, I get it.

Yes, labels aren’t great, but “Cougar” seems kind of flattering to me. Now something like The Saggy Baggy Elephant, that would be offensive. Cougars are sleek, beautiful, and dangerous. When I picture the animal, I see a cat that moves with grace and flair, on the prowl.

Labels, they are all around us. We label what we like best or least. We label things healthy or unhealthy. We label good or bad. Every company out there is trying to somehow fit within the label, green. Labels are just another way to organize things in our heads, our lives.

As labels go, I wouldn’t mind being considered a Cougar at all. My guy is younger than me, well one year, so perhaps I don’t fit the definition, but in the past I’ve gone out with guys more than 10 years younger.

Cougars – Okay or Offensive?

While Hulk Hogan, 54, may be famous and may have a rock hard body, I still find it disgusting that he’d consider, much less HAVE an affair with his daughter Brooke’s friend, Christiane Plante, 33.

Christiane said that “My relationship with Terry [Hulk Hogan] began at a time when Terry and Linda privately knew their marriage was ending. She had left him already, although no official papers had been filed. Terry is a good man, good father and a good friend, and he and I grew close at a time when he was going through a very difficult period. It seemed right then, but I know it was wrong.”

News of the affair is running rampant across the blogosphere, with numerous sites reporting that that the affair occurred last year while Hulk and his wife Linda were still living under the same roof and well, news of the affair prompted Linda to file for divorce.

I’m sure it happens more often in the real world, but is there truly nothing off limits anymore?

Is it true what they say, “you can’t help who the heart loves”?

Shouldn’t people use caution and avoid falling into such situations to begin with?
