Kendra Wilkinson, newly engaged to Philadelphia Eagle, Hank Baskett recently spoke  to USWeekly spilling the beans about her relationship with Hefner and insisting that she no longer finds his playboy lifestyle – 3 girlfriends at a time – acceptable.  That cracks me up, because I always thought of Kendra as the first one to flash her boobs or to talk about something sexual while Hugh Hefner just seemed like a nice old guy walking around in his pajamas.  My point being flashing is something done in public, while the intimacy she admits to sharing with Hefner was done in the privacy of their home.

I said before that the Girls Next Door seemed strangely un-sexy.  Three beautiful ladies, frequently dressed in very little, but the show seemed to have more of a focus on the girl’s relationships with each other or the other girls who came through the mansion. It had a sleepover – without men – feel.  Of course, I’m a girl, not a guy and that may be why I feel that way.

Hefner appeared to be more of a friend to Bridgette Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson, while he and Holly Madison looked to share a more intimate bond.  Kendra admits that was the case……….. 

Wilkinson, who was “intimate” with 82-year-old Hefner said she thought of him more as a best friend with a whole lot of money rather than a lover. But he still made her “feel beautiful,” she said.

While she holds no hard feelings for the Playboy founder, she is happy to be out of the mansion and done with the ‘Girls Next Door.’

Do you ever watch The Girls Next Door?  Would you ever be able to be one of 3 girlfriends if it meant that you were allowed to live a life of luxury in a fabulous mansion?  Would you be able to be the girlfriend of an 80+ year old man if it meant you could live a life of luxury in a fabulous mansion?

Girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson Spills the Beans On Hef

First, she dated Jessica Simpson’s beau…… (what is his name, I know they are always mentioned over at People magazine, “Jessica Simpson and _______! Jess says it’s real love this time,” or something like that. Tony Romo?  Yep, I looked it up – Tony Romo, of the Dallas Cowboys.)

Now,  a hockey player whom she met when he attended one of her concerts. (My sister saw her in concert recently and she said Carrie Underwood rocks, er countries? Whatever – she had a good time).

I can see the appeal of a celebrity dating an athlete over somebody like an actor or even another singer. *

*An athlete is going to look good - he’s not in shape just for a movie role or a concert tour.

*He’s going to have a pretty big off season breakwhen Carrie will be able to enjoy some couple time in a Jennifer Aniston-style bikini.

*He’s famous, but he’s not going to be more famous than she is, to most folks anyway.

Watch out Carrie, I hear that Jessica Simpson has been seen in attendance at some NHL events…..(Okay, I totally made that last part up.)

Madonna’s Ex, Guy Ritchie, Dating Millionaire

I’ve been a fan of Britney Spears ever since she danced down that school hallway in “Hit Me Baby, One More Time.” These day, when I go running, she’s singing about a “Womanizer” in my ears, helping me to run just a bit faster, feuled with righteous indignation on behalf of the womanized.

When she’s faltered, I’ve worried, because …. well, I’m a Mom and I tend to worry. It’s part of my job description.  (Perusing dailt to-do list ….worried about the troubled, the lost, the struggling …..check.)

Britney recently did an interview with Rolling Stone where she is described as “…shyer, more guarded, remote — like the old Britney but with the volume turned way down.”  I guess that’s what happens when a young star has such a public melt down – she learns to hold her cards closer to her chest.

In an excerpt from the magazine that I read here, Britney talks about her new lifestyle of hard-working days and turning-in-early nights.

And when she does find time to go on a date, Spears says the experience makes her wish she had just stayed home.

Oh, Britney, I so get this one. Have you ever had one of those dates where you just wished you were at home on the couch?  You finish the date and think, “Okay, I’m good, I did my duty. That’s the last one of those I have to do for the next six months.”

“Right when we got there, we just knew it was just bad,” Spears tells Rolling Stone of one recent bad date. “He looked like an older version of Harry Potter, but skinnier. … So I had to get dessert first.”

Harry Potter? Does she mean the actual wizard? Or the actor Daniel Radcliffe?  That kid is adorable.  I’ll go out with the older Harry Potter. What’s his number? She needed desert because he was skinny?  Oh, well, I look for any excuse to go for the desert, as well.

“And the other date I had, the guy was really, really tall and a lot older. … We’re trying to ask him questions, like, ‘OK, you’re into martial arts, so what kind of martial arts are you into?’ And he was like, ‘Oh, all kinds.’”

Who is this “we”? Who is going on these dates with her?  And why are they quizzing these men? I imagine it would be stressful enough to go on a date with an international superstar (who underwent a very public breakdown), but to then have to answer to her “panel” of……experts? very large bodyguards? giggling girlfriends? managerial team? dad? well, that would suck. (And probably put me off dating international superstars for awhile).

Why not wait until she is well enough to go out on her own?  And who is picking these men?  She obviously does not know them, is surprised by their Harry Potter-ness and lack of knowledge in the specific forms of the martial arts.  Maybe now is not the right time to date? How many different areas does she need to come-back in, at the same time? 

Dating requires a certain amount of time and attention to get it right. Otherwise you are just going through the motions. You are just eating another piece of cheesecake with yet another Harry Potter look-alike. Does a busy lady like Britney Spears have time to go through the motions? 

I say, take your time, Britney. The dating world isn’t going anywhere. Britney Spears will always be able to find a date if she seeks one. Pushing things will only skew your point of view and wouldn’t you rather your next boyfriend be a little more JT and a lot less KFed?  

Take a look at this and then tell me what you think – should Britney wait until she has the time and opportunity to date without the “we”?  Guys, would you date Britney Spears?

Celebrity Dating – Britney Spears and the “We” Step Out

It’s a show on E! Entertainment television featuring three young Playboy models who are Hugh Hefner’s girlfriends. I’ve watched the show a few times and I like the girls. They have an interesting relationship with Hefner. They are his girlfriends, but there doesn’t appear to be any sort of sexual spark between any of them. He really seems more like a nice, older man who wears his pjs all day and enjoys the company of buxom blondes. That’s a gig I’m sure a lot of guys could appreciate. 

Holly, the main girlfriend for 7 years, has mentioned wanting to marry Hefner, whom she calls “Puffin.” Hefner has explained that she’s the boss in some ways, she hosts the events and the other girls follow her lead.

Holly’s Puffin recently told US Magazine this:

“I love her very much, but you know, she wants very much to get married and have children. That isn’t very much in the cards for me,” he adds. “So there has to be a certain reality there. And I’m sure the time will come when she’ll be dating others. That’s part of the transition.” (He also confirmed the news to E!.)

Well, apparently Holly is a girlfriend no more. It’s been reported that she has moved out of the mansion and into a condo. I saw her on another E! show where she wouldn’t out and out admit that they were broken up, but she said something along the lines of watch the new season and you’ll find out. Then, she got all giggly and goofy when the host asked about her reported involvement with Criss Angel. (Criss Angel?? I question this woman’s taste.)   

Now I’m left wondering if a new girl is moving in? Or will Bridget and Kendra be involved in some sort of competition to become Girlfriend #1? Will Puffin ever marry again?

Holly No Longer Hef’s Girlfriend?

One of the couples who gets a lot of press is Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo. They are in some sort of gossip news every single day – constant quotes from Jessica about how she’s finally truly in love, how he’s the love of her life, how she can be herself with him or whatever. Good for her, I wish her happiness, but do we really need daily updates on this couple? Do you wake up in the morning, grab your computer, and quickly scan the news praying that Tony and Jessica are still in love? Does Jessica Simpson want all this constant relationship buzz out there? What does she think of headlines like Sorry, Cowboys Fans…’Yoko Romo’ Might Be a Permanent Fixture? Does this sell more cds? Does it get her more movie roles? 

I can understand people wanting to work in a creative field, but I can’t understand the need for celebrity, the need for the buzz. I can’t imagine trying to meet and get to know someone with all those eyes on me and  I can’t imagine having to endure a break-up in the spotlight. Who needs that added pressure? Being a normal human being is challenging enough.

Jessica Simpson’s Love Life

My teenage daughter, Bay, and her friend Kimm, stayed up watching swimming until the early morning hours and walked around with photos of Phelps as the wallpaper on their phones. They sent each other Phelps photos on the computer, called themselves his girlfriends, they kept a timer going so that they were ready for any swimming event, they taped his interviews and events. They have a plan to save money so that they are able to see him compete in the next Summer Olympics. These two have Phelps Phever something fierce.

Today, while researching Algebra questions with Bay, we saw a headline proclaiming,”PHELPS SUCKS FACE WITH AUSSIE” – with a story from New York Post. We clicked over and read about the alleged hook-up between Michael Phelps and fellow gold medal swimmer, Stephanie Rice, of Australia. The Post’s Page Six reports that “The pumped-up pair clinched and swapped spit at a celebratory bash outside the Olympic Village.”

“Swapped spit”? Could there be a more unappetizing way to describe kissing? Well, perhaps “tonsil hockey,” that one is definitely gag-worthy.

Bay did not react well to this newest Michael news. I wonder if I can talk her into turning her Olympic savings plan into a Bay needs some new wheels savings plan?

Michael Phelps Finds Romance At the 2008 Summer Olympics?

I’m a fan of both Aniston and Mayer. Okay, to be honest, I’m a big John Mayer fan. I think he’s talented and attractive and funny and smart. I love his music. “Dreaming With A Broken Heart” is one of my all-time favorite songs.

I saw photos of the two of them online and on the magazine covers that I stare at as I wait in line at the supermarket. News of Johniston, or Johnifer or whatever they have been dubbed, it’s everywhere – pictures, speculation, everything that usually constitutes a celebrity match-up information frenzy.

Mayer appears to be a serial monogamist. He dates one lovely lady for a period of time, then moves on to the next. He dates this new lady for a period of time and then, again, he moves on. This is his dating past, as portrayed by the media and well, by his actual dating history. He has a reputation as being a bit of a heartbreaker. US Magazine named him one of their top “cads” of the year. Why? Is it wrong for a man to date a variety of women? Is he supposed to marry every female he dates? Jennifer Anniston has dated a few men since the end of her marriage. Does she have the same reputation? Should she?

I can’t imagine how hard it must be to be a celebrity and single. Everything is so public and played out for the masses. A couple of celebrities meet, then we hear that they are secretly dating, followed by openly dating, then there’s the rumor of a wedding or a “baby bump.” And it all plays out on this super speeded up timetable, accompanied by the requisite paparazzi photos.

In the “real” world, don’t we advise our friends to take their time, don’t we try to take our time, as well? Isn’t it important to be sure of your choice? I can’t imagine the names I would be called, if I was famous and my dating history got out. Especially my 20s – oh my, that would not be good.

Why are celebrities expected to do things any differently than anyone else? They are entertainers and they are frequently pretty to look at, to listen to, to watch, whatever. Why should we, or anyone else, feel that we have a right to judge their private lives and the personal decisions that they make? When my brother-in-law visits, I read the magazines he buys, but not with an eye for judgement. If I read that a publication has named my favorite singer (okay, one of my favorites, I have a thing for Dave Grohl, too) a cad, the only thing going through my mind is “give me a break.”

It is my hope that both Mayer and Aniston enjoyed the time that they spent together and that they continue to date as many people as they feel it is necessary to date, until they find The One.

Kate Hudson Moves On…Quickly

After the quick read, I can’t help but wonder if it’s true. Will you truly think about a former “failed” relationship after you end your current one? Thinking that this time it will work? Curious thought.

Though I’m a firm believer in second chances, I do draw the line on what will be a healthy move. Changes may have happened, a rekindled passion with the familiar may be comforting but I still consider the unresolved issues — issues that can haunt the couple. Will you truly find yourself in the right sort of relationship?

Another thing that struck me in the article is the mention of the bit about having kids or being a single mom as a way to weed out boys from the men. Wouldn’t it be awesome to be able to do that? I’m no single mum, though. I need to find another way to do that. Suggestions, anyone?

But, yea. Two things worth thinking about: rekindling past relationships and boy weeding. Hehe.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter.

Kate Hudson Moves On Quick

A few weeks ago, watched a segment on Cougars, presented by Kristen Schaal, on the Daily Show. It was clever and I found the over-the-top comments such as – I’m paraphrasing here – take her in the back and make out with her or she’ll never get to sleep tonight, funny. The “Cougar” was a woman in her 50s, lovely and well-coiffed. Schaal had her “assistant” place her on John Stewart’s lap and he was instructed to pet her. Stewart appeared very uncomfortable, part of the skit, of course. The idea was to demonstrate how inappropriate it was to label women. Okay, I get it.

Yes, labels aren’t great, but “Cougar” seems kind of flattering to me. Now something like The Saggy Baggy Elephant, that would be offensive. Cougars are sleek, beautiful, and dangerous. When I picture the animal, I see a cat that moves with grace and flair, on the prowl.

Labels, they are all around us. We label what we like best or least. We label things healthy or unhealthy. We label good or bad. Every company out there is trying to somehow fit within the label, green. Labels are just another way to organize things in our heads, our lives.

As labels go, I wouldn’t mind being considered a Cougar at all. My guy is younger than me, well one year, so perhaps I don’t fit the definition, but in the past I’ve gone out with guys more than 10 years younger.
