I visited the Dead house on Height in San Francisco, which was pretty cool, but after that famous abode, I’d probably like to visit this house:
It’s kind of funky and although red, it’s still cool because someone great lived there. Do you know who used to call this house home?

Is Offbeat Homes really my favorite blog?
As in blogs I write; not read because that would be a whole other discussion. I think about this a lot because most professional bloggers I know do have more than one blog. I think that there are some pros and cons to playing favorites.
Is it even fair to play favorites? How do you judge one blog over another when content varies so drastically? And what about job stability. How will your other employers like it when you blurt out, “Guess what? My other blog rocks so much more hard core than the …read more

FRA-GEE-LE.
“I think that says ‘fragile’, honey.”
“You’ll shoot your eye out!”
I love ‘A Christmas Story’ – and those of you who haven’t seen the movie are like, “Ingrid’s lost her mind.” Well, I have, but that’s not the point!
If you’ve see ‘A Christmas Story’ (a 1000 times or so, like me), undoubtedly you recall the houe that Ralphie and his family lived in. Well, the actual house from the movie went up for aution on eBay, and Jones (a megafan by the sounds of it), paid the owner $150,000 to end the bid early.
The house was his!
He then invested $500,000 in …read more

Under new legislation in the eastern European country of Romania, the government has been returning property seized by the former communist regime to its rightful owners. Last month, Dominic van Hapsburg – a New York architect – had the ownership of the fabled Dracula’s Castle given back to his family.
Officially named Bran Castle, the property was taken by the commies in 1948. Mr van Hapsburg inherited it as a descendent of the Hapsburg family line, once rulers of the country, and owners of the castle when it was seized.
Contrary to popular belief, Bran Castle was never actually owned …read more

Just outside of Denver, Colorado, on Genesee Mountain, one can see a house that has been called many different names over the years. Built in 1963 by architect Charles Deaton, it’s been referred to as the sculptured house, the Jetson house, the spaceship house, the clam-shaped house and the mushroom house.
But what the place is most famous for is having been used by Woody Allen in his quirky sci-fi movie, Sleeper, parts of which were fimed there in 1973.
It’s a 7,500-square-foot home with three levels and some really funky curves. Charles Deaton designed it as a sculpture first …read more

Actor and environmentalist Dennis Weaver passed on last Friday at the age of 81. While perhaps more well known for his acting and environmental work over the years, Dennis also spent a good portion of life living in a really cool home that he helped design and build himself. A honking 10,000 square foot Earthship.
For those of you not familiar with Earthships, they’re passive solar homes built using recycled tires and aluminum cans. In Dennis’ case, he built his place in 1989 and it took about 3,000 tires and 300,000 aluminum and tin cans to complete. …read more

No kidding! It’s really the Simpson’s House. In 1997, Fox Broadcasting and Pepsi-Cola held a contest to win a full-scale replica of the Simpsons house, just like in the cartoon series.
The home was located in Henderson, Nevada, on Red Bark Lane in the Springfield Community South Valley Ranch. The community was named after the Simpson’s cartoon character’s home town.
The Simpsons House was painted a vibrant yellow and baby blue – both inside and out. Power orange, generator green, jazz age coral and pink flamingo colors adorned the furniture, walls and floors inside. To build the replica of …read more
