His granddaughter and her brother, who was driving, had stopped in a line of traffic at a red light.
They were rear ended and the granddaughter was thrown against the windshield. (She was faulted for not wearing her seat belt.) The hit from behind was forceful enough that it threw the grandchildren’s car into the one stopped ahead of them. People from all three cars were taken to the hospital. Fortunately none were injured enough to require more than outpatient care.

Do you and/or your youngsters use cell phones and text while driving? Do you feel you’re safe when you’re doing this? Do you think it’s okay to have your attention diverted by your texting while driving? Or driving one-handed while using a cell phone?

Would you want your children or grandchildren involved in an accident as our friend’s grandchildren were…because a driver was text messaging?

Travelers often find that they use their cell phone a little bit more when they’re on the road than they do at home. Whether it’s calling to check on things at the office, talking with family and friends back home, picking up voice messages, or texting friends and sending photos to let everyone know that you’re some place very cool, it’s easy to see a few minutes of air time turn into several hours.

If you have no limit on your cell minutes, or have someone else paying the bill, it probably doesn’t matter. But the last thing you need when you get home from vacation, along with all those other bills, is to find an outrageously high cell bill. And if you have teens with their own cell phones, this probably is an issue even when you’re not traveling.

The release of Cell Minute Tracker for the iPhone helps integrate the detailed billing information into a personal productivity application that allows you to monitor usage for all accounts on your family cell plan in real time. You can view daily logs of minute usage, track rollover minutes, and monitor text usage. You will receive an alert when your are at 90% of your limits as well as when your bill is due, hopefully keeping you from the expensive over limit charges or late payments. The information is encrypted, and you have a pass code for additional security.

The Cell Minute Tracker application can be downloaded directly from your iPhone or via the iTunes App store. At a price tag of 99 cents it’s the equivalent of about 2-3 minutes of over limit air time. Available for the iPhone and AT&T users only.

Do you worry about your cell phone minutes and text limits? Is it worse when you’re traveling?

I’m not one of those people.
I got my first cell phone in January. I was completely resistant to the idea. Frankly, I don’t want everyone in the world to be able to contact me at any time. It’s intrusive. There’s no incommunicado left.

We got it because my husband really had to have one. I guess he felt left in the dark ages.

Cell #1 – Ainsley dropped it in the toilet. Splash.

Cell #2 – Zack carried it into the shower while I was doing my sinus wash miracle cure for allergies. ZACK!!!

Do you know they now how a little strip of paper inside the cell phone that changes color when it’s been touched by water? Like a pregnancy test? So, you can’t lie and say it never got dropped in the toilet or shower. See how smart they are?

If they’re so smart, why can’t they invent a WATERPROOF phone?
