Today is Friday and that means it’s Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing challenge please read the First Freaky Friday entry.
This morning I heard the news the people responsible for the murder of a friend had been caught. I felt relief & that somehow justice does prevail. It’s not that I was close to this man anymore, but I didn’t wish for those responsible to get away with killing him. It got me thinking about how different life might have been if this man had not been killed.

I wrote a journal entry, in the form of an unsent letter, to him today. I wanted to let him know I’d forgiven him for the hurt he caused in my life, mostly because I know I will never get a chance to tell him now, but also because I needed to write something about him in my journal that helped me let this all go.

Spend some time writing in your journal to someone you can no longer communicate with. If this person hurt you in any way, let them know, but express how you have moved on from that time. Tell them about your new life. Thank them for the good things you did have together.

I hope you enjoy this journal writing challenge. Please leave any comments in the section below.

As I mentioned yesterday there has been a lot of gossip around my life lately.
Today is Friday and that means it’s Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing challenge please read the First Freaky Friday entry.

As I mentioned yesterday there has been a lot of gossip around my life lately. Some of the things said tried to make bring into question the reputation of certain men I have trusted in the last 20 odd years. While I understand each of us are not infallible, I also am leaning heavily on my trust of these men right now, rather than listen to gossip. But what if I am wrong to trust them? Today I investigated this idea in a journal writing session.

What about you? Who have you trusted implicitly over the years? What if someone came with gossip or hearsay about this person? What would your first reaction be? What if the gossip proved true? Would certain aspects of your life change for better or for worse? Would this bring a complete change of lifestyle for you? Would you have to stop speaking to this person? Would the revelation bring you closer to this person? Would you have to rely more or less on your own good judgement?

Spend some time working through these issues in your journal. Concentrate on how something like this would make you view your own life, seeing what you trust in from a different perspective. Just to let you know the people I have mentioned are not accused of any crime. I’m speaking about issues of trust, not criminal activity. I hope that’s clear. I hope you enjoy this journal writing challenge. Please leave any comments in the section below.

Today I read an article about how a Nigerian born writing student has developed an exhibition called Changing Perspectives. The UK exhibition, Streams of the Soul, makes use of creative writing, photography and film-making to relate the stories 25 families with similar backgrounds to his own. I loved the idea on reading this. It’s definitely an exhibition I’d see if only I could.

Use this idea today to write in your journal about your own family background. If you need to, step into the shoes of one of your own descendants and write the entry from their perspective. It doesn’t matter if you know very little about the real stories. Just write from your imagination about arriving in a new country, how it felt to leave the place once known as home, etc. Focus on emotion and the mammoth task of leaving one country for another. If this journal writing challenge leaves you with questions about your family background list what it is you want to know and start asking family members or doing your own research.

I hope you enjoy this journal writing challenge. Please leave any comments in the section below.

Spend some time writing in your journal about what you’d do instead of getting into the craziness of Christmas.

If you’ve a mother I’m sure you understand the pressure in trying to do it all. Not only do we look after the welfare of our children, but we keep things running at home and work (if you have job), but there’s also your partner to support and then, somewhere in the day you want to find time for yourself. Sigh! I’m exhausted just writing that sentence and I am a mother.

One of the reasons I keep a journal is to gain a sense of self. I am able to use that page to claim a bit of me time. After reading an article about a free workshop* titled The Mother’s Guide to Self-Renewal: How to Reclaim, Rejuvenate and Re-Balance Your Life, based on a book of the same name by Renee Trudeau I just wished I could attend the workshop, too.

I think mums in general are often guilty of expecting too much of themselves. For this journal writing challenge write a journal entry as if you are this woman you aspire to be. Write about being super mum, the perfect wife and mother. Write all the great deeds she accomplishes. Then spend some time writing about why you’re glad you are not her. Write about your imperfections and why these are good for not only you but your family.

I hope you enjoy this journal writing challenge. Please share any comments in the section below.

Today is Friday and that means it’s Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing challenge please read the First Freaky Friday entry.
We all know what it is to have addictions. Some of our addictions are soft, not really too harmful and somewhat safe. Other addictions are wicked and take hold of our lives. Whatever kind of an addiction you have write a journal entry as addiction. Imagine you are that craving & burning desire. Speak about the hold this addiction has on your life. Let the addiction have its way on the page. You may [...]
Post from: Blisstree

Whatever kind of an addiction you have write a journal entry as addiction. Imagine you are that craving & burning desire. Speak about the hold this addiction has on your life. Let the addiction have its way on the page. You may want to hold a dialogue with addiction, as you may find you have something to say back.

I’ve been following an interesting discussion on the Jewelry & Beading blog about perfectionism. While the discussion is mostly on creating wearable art I still think it’s relevant to writing and journal writing. You might like to join in or just read and spend some time writing in your journal about your views. I couldn’t help think if it would make a good Freaky Friday journal writing prompt to write as if you are [...]
Post from: Blisstree

I’ve been following an interesting discussion on the Jewelry & Beading blog about perfectionism. While the discussion is mostly on creating wearable art I still think it’s relevant to writing and journal writing. You might like to join in or just read and spend some time writing in your journal about your views. I couldn’t help think if it would make a good Freaky Friday journal writing prompt to write as if you are perfection.

Try to let perfection speak what is really on its mind about your writing or art. Explore the idea and listen to what perfection would have you do. If you like create a dialogue with perfection. Ask questions. Why aren’t you living up to perfections standards? What does perfection expect of you? Is perfection being reasonable?

Sometimes when it comes to making a decision it can be really difficult to focus on what you really want. Often there are many pros and cons when it comes to the decision. For this journal writing challenge think about something you need to decide soon and write a list of all your positive and negative thoughts on the choice. Then give a voice to both sides of the argument and write as if the perspectives could speak their mind. You could do this one view at a time or let the differing sides hold a dialogue together.

Once you have completed this journal writing challenge give yourself a little distance, perhaps a day or two, longer if you can. Reread the entry and see if altering your perspective helps you decide what it is you really want to do.
