Fostering Cats

Yesterday my family and I stopped at the pet store to pick up some dog food. In the front of the store they had cages set up with cats and kittens available for adoption, so of course we had to take a little detour.
While my girls ooh’d and ahh’d over the kittens, my husband and I got to talking with one of the volunteers about the three cats we already have. Though we’re not “in the market” for any more pets we do miss having kittens around (and the girls have never had kittens!), the volunteer mentioned that they can …read more

Have you heard of the Blogathon? It’s a 24-hour blogging marathon taking place next Saturday, July 25th. Hundreds of bloggers from around the world will be updating their blogs every thirty minutes from 6:00 a.m. PDT Saturday to 6:00 a.m. PDT Sunday for a charity of their choice.
Every year, there are tons of folks blogging for animal and pet charities. In the past I’ve blogged for Best Friends Animal Sanctuary as well as a local no-kill shelter, and though I’m not able to participate this year (I get to admin instead!) I wanted to spotlight a bunch of bloggers who …read more

I am just in love with the idea of sharing a piece of jewelry with your precious little one.
Heart U Back

My daughter and I were hanging out at the mall one day when she saw the World Vision poster and asked if she could donate part of her pocket money to help poor children in Africa. Her desire to help others gave me a chance to explain further about charity.
Living in New Zealand with double-income earning parents, our daughter has been shielded from poverty and hardship. I’ve always wondered how to teach our daughter about charity, about helping others and about paying it forward.
I suggested that instead of helping strangers, that we should help our less fortunate family members/relatives. Unfortunately, …read more
Healthy Brunch Recipes for Mom

One of my favorite meals of all time is brunch. I love the combination of foods available – somehow it makes me happy that I can try several different items without having to make a commitment to just one dish!
My mom loves brunch, too, and not surprisingly, we usually make her that as a meal for Mother’s Day. This year, I’m going to try some of the recipes from Toast to Women. Check this out, since Mother’s Day falls on the kick-off day for National Women’s Health Week (May 10-16), two organizations (Clos du Bois and WomenHeart) …read more
Diabetes Handprint

If you had a word to describe your feelings about diabetes, what would it be?
That’s the question that the folks behind the Diabetes Handprint initiative want to know. They are asking everyone to create a virtual handprint that has the word you’d like to use to help bring awareness to diabetes. In exchange for every virtual handprint made, they will give $5 to one of two diabetic charities.
I chose the word, “blessed.” That might seem like an odd word for someone who has had Type 1 Diabetes for 20 years, but I feel like getting the disease …read more

Donations For Scott’s Boys
Good morning. I hope that you all are having a relatively storm free Sunday. I just wanted to announce that we are still collecting donations for Scott Terrill’s sons, over at my personal blog. In order to encourage donations, Supernanny Jo Frost has graciously offered a one hour phone consultation to whomever donates the highest amount. Since this used to be the blog dedicated solely to Supernanny and her adoring fans, I wanted to make this information known to all of you. There is a Paypal button on the right side of my blog, under the picture of Scott. So …read more
